Ok, 1st off, I've never used an access port before, seems fairly straight forward though.

How ever, my 2024 Maverick has a few existing mods mainly a Theramal R&D 3" exhaust and an S&B intake.

All the preloaded tunes don't really match my area, in terms of octane, highest here atm is 92, less I got race fuel at 100+ lolz.

My question now that I have the AP, based on my mods, which tune should I start with ?

Also I've contacted Cobb, roughly just over a week ago now with no response to the same question, though there youtube guys responded in 3 days lol. Strange...

Any insight/advice would be much appreciated, thanks 😊.

If I remember correctly, mine had (Subaru) a number of tunes for varying octane levels (91, 93, etc..,), valet, etc..., Get as close to the octane level as possible w/o going over.

I have mine on the Sport 91-93 tune which has worked ok. If you want to take it a step further I'd contact Jason @yamahaSHO and he can tweak the canned tunes Cobb gives you

Sweet, was thinking that would be a good start before I move forward with a protune, mostly want my transmission shift points to be better, as I noticed after changing the exhaust the mav started acting differently in regards to shifting. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

Ok! Late night annoying question time!... o_O...

Just installed the stage 1, 91 OCT, sport TCM map.
My question after doing that is the map installed over the *standard* Ford map or the *Sport Mode* map ?

I drove the mav on a 10 mile loop, and I didn't notice any difference in either standard or sport modes ? The acceleration felt the same *no extra pep etc* and the shifting felt the same ? lols did I do something wrong o_O...my AP said it was installed correctly.

Also when attempting to configure gauges or try a different map the AP stays in a constant *verifying the vehicle is in the on position* ? I just got this AP so I doubt its the cable ? Not sure why it is doing this ?

No matter the tune, the shifting is still crap in my opinion. Contact that guy and let him take a crack at it.

But since you have the access port. I think you would be wise to contact. Randy at tunewerks.
He was the head tuner for montune. He is as honest as they come. He come highly regarded in the st, rs community. You can ask or debate him with anything and he will always steer you straight. Even if it means he’s not the right guy for the job.

Him and I have had some in depth debates on the rs forums. I respect his skills and honesty. Give him a shout and have him do a proper tune. The ots ones Cobb sends are about as worthless as tits on a bull.

not really true. they show dyno gains and obviously the TCM remapping is worth a lot by itself.

a custom tune is a really great idea of course.

You’re not wrong but you know what I’m getting at.
I can say after being in the ecoboost game a long time. That I still don’t trust the Cobb ots maps. Seems many more of those go bang than the much more powerful custom maps. Well unless you choose tune plus. Those all go pop at some point

Ok! so after some more time with my AP etc, plus been out of state for work, I finally figured out what was causing my AP not to reconnect to the ECU.... was a bad cable, the OBD end is *twisted* and if I wiggle that a bit it connects, so its deffinately the cable.

Again....waiting for Cobb to get back with my, hopefully I get a new cable on the way o_O.

Didn't read all the posts, but be careful with Cobb OTS maps.
My experience with Cobb AP and other user feedback, COBB OTS maps may not be ideal long term...

OTS tunes are a good teaser, but I personally wouldn't run them long term.

Have a good EB tuner do a custom tune for your mods is my best suggestion.

(If someone already covered this, then disregard. This info is based on FoST tuning.)

So far I have not seen or felt any issues with the OTS tunes, and once I get my downpipe and intercooler I will be doing a pro tune to tie everything together :).

Also I can't see Cobb releasing an OTS tune, that later damaged a motor/transmission, that's a liability they don't want to deal with. There OTS tunes go through qiute a bit of testing before they are publicly released.

You will not feel any issues with the tune. But your assumption with them being safe is false. It’s a base map and although the power is lower than a custom it’s still not for your specific vehicle.
Cobb holds no liability for a tune you load. I’m glad I’m not the only one who has stated that those ots tunes are known to be less than safe.
scroll any fiesta, or focus forum and you will quickly see the same issues pop up with Cobb tunes.
Not sure it will ever get you but the sooner you get your tune the better.

Allow me a few comments:

I'm guessing I've had my livernois for 18 months and have been a wimp and didn't put it on. Today, don't ask why, but I just had enough and finally put on the 91-93 performance tune and took it for a brief spin. Compared to the cobb tune (no offense) on my WRX, this was INSTANTLY noticeable. Tomorrow, I'll take it for a proper run.
