I would check the “Easy Fuel” filler opening to make sure it’s not stuck open. On my hybrid, after you pop the fuel door you can press the circular opening where the filler gun goes. Does the opening look open loose? You should be able to press and release it with your finger and it should spring back closed. I think I remember seeing on some other Ford forums that these can get stuck open sometimes. Just a thought. If everything seems normal here, there’s probably an issue with the purge or vent control system like Rob Cactus Gray said.Emission control

Maverick's don't have a gas cap. They have a spring loaded fueling door. Was the gas cap, or gas door, left open or off? Is the gas cap fully screwed on? Did you over fill the gas tank (more than 1 click)? Did the light come on right after getting gas? Did the light go out? If one of the above was the issue the light should go out in a couple drives, if not, Auto part stores can reset the light for you.
If none of the above apply you should take it in. Probably a bad vent control valve or purge valve. Your truck is drivable with this issue. Just won’t be as environmentally friendly as it was before.
