Halon is a great extinguisher...lots of uses especially where no residue after use is paramount...think aircraft engines, computer server complexes etc.

It is good to know that it displaces oxygen (how it snuffs out a fire...CO2 extinguishers do the same thing) so don't use it in a confined space if someone is in it or trapped.

As well, many already know, but Halon has a devastating effect on the ozone layer and is why it has been fazed out in most places after the Montreal Accord was signed. (I think that was in the middle eighties and it was only a few years ago that the ozone layer has recovered...a close one for the earth's inhabitants.

I thought I would just add this note, in case people think a Halon extinguisher should be in everyone's garage or Maverick!

Have a good one,

Andy
Mine was refilled with Halotron when it was recertified.

Twice when I was riding with my dad in his Caddy we stopped behind cars that were catching fire. Both times it was the dreaded
Stinking Lincoln. He put the fire out both times with his trusty fire extinguisher.

I watched another stinking Lincoln burn up.
It was too involved to stop with anything less than a foam tank on a fire truck.

The Fireman told me Ford Lincoln Mercury earned the nickname, ‘Stinking Lincoln’ because they ran the fuel line only one inch away and along side the hot exhaust manifold.

They burned when the crappy fuel line insulation came apart. The fuel line also moved closer during normal engine movement, closer to the manifold with its long run between clamps.
