Edmunds just did a comparo video. Dude basically trashed the Maverick and said that he would rather get the SC for daily driving. Oh, well.
Same goober did videos earlier on both, he is biased toward the SC. Once I saw who was doing the review, I stopped watching as I knew the outcome.

I believe that they put those seats in there to avoid the truck import tariff.

I think the Mav is only a better value when equipped with XL or XLT trim and the Hybrid engine.

Once you go all out with Lariat, FX4, 4K, Lux package, 2.0, and AWD I think the Santa is then a better buy. Edmund tested the Santa to get an average of 29MPG vs the Mav at 27MPG and on top of that you get better handling and more luxury for not much of a price diff.
Lariat hybrid without lux package is actually still surprisingly cheap, and it may address the concern I'm seeing from a lot of reviewers about the Maverick's rear suspension being too stiff as its a totally different setup than the AWD ones and may have softer springs since they know its limited to 2K towing.

If its also very stiffly sprung, I'm not sure that will be an easy fix because you can't just throw in softer aftermarket springs for a hundred bucks, since the FWD ones are using proprietary "force vectoring" springs. Fingers crossed as I don't mind a bit of squat in exchange for cushier ride.

I surfed a couple SC forums last night.

They seem more concerned about the Maverick than the SC.

After a couple hours of reading I am under the impression that many SC owners and people who want one like the SC but think the Maverick is the better value.

SC owners are very disappointed in the lack of towing packages in a vehicle that can tow 5,000 lbs.

My biggest takeaway is that in a Maverick I can mostly order only what I want, in a SC I am constrained by what is in a package.

The Santa Cruz bed is rated for 661 lbs. The Maverick I've seen is rated for 1500 payload capacity. But Payload capacity I believe means total of passengers and cargo combined. Correct me if I'm wrong. If someone could look in thier owners manual to verify what the max weight is recommended for just the bed itself? I've tried to on the internet but can't get a clear answer. If the Maverick can really put 1500 lbs in the bed, that would be a HUGE difference.

Also, the Santa Cruz interior looks more upscale than the maverick, but also looks more busy and cramped IMO. The SC has that horrid gloss black dash trim. Don't know why car makers keep using it. Looks cheap, shows fingerprints, and reflects sunlight. Also the SC has a higher mid center console. Ford deliberately made the center console lower than the seat bottoms. This was so that when someone is sitting with their legs spread slightly, the drivers right knee and the passengers left knee won't be up against the middle console. Smart. Also by having a lower middle console and a flat upper console rather that the SC's that slopes downwards, it makes the cabin roomier. I like the simpler clean interior of the Maverick. Only thing I don't like is the lack of a CD player. But that is not just the Maverick. After 2018, most cars and trucks stopped offering them.
I’m thinking you want to know the max bed weight alone (with just 1 person/driver)….you’d take the max payload of estimate 1500 lbs minus the driver weight (estimate 225 lbs?) or 1275 lbs for max bed payload. Just my math

Just another confirmation that Maverick is a better vehicle overall for the money!

At the start of the video comparing these two, they show prices as equipped. How in the world did they get the Maverick up to $40,000+? I think it might be Canadian, but still...
I ordered my hybrid XLT the way I want and it stickered out at about $25,500.

I semi-agree with this. I think the Maverick is the better choice at $30k maximum. Once you cross that threshold, it's not clear anymore. For sure a loaded Maverick at $35-36k is no longer worth it over a SC. But my Lariat Hybrid with the special color and luxury package still came out under $30k and the SC doesn't really compete with that.
At the end of the day - A Fully optioned Lariat / AWD gets up to $36k and now in full effect Vs Santa Cruz- I get it- But to each there own with infotainment/climate control buried in there somewhere, piano black interior (NOPE) high rail sides/20 inch wheels, Maverick aftermarket options +20, trailer brake controller built in- Not sure how the Cruz wins ?

I get you. But there are some Santa Cruz Limited features I wish I had on my Maverick. I would have paid for the options, if they were available.
  • 360 Surround View (I love it on my wife's van)
  • 10"+ Infotainment Screen
  • Digital Speedo Cluster
  • Side Blind View Camera activated in tachometer when turning signals activated
  • Ventilated Seats (not just heated)
  • Black chrome trim (this would be baller on a Maverick)
  • Rain sensing wipers
  • Rear Seat A/C vents
  • Paddle shifters (don't care about paddles, but would like to be able downshift in certain applications other than just Low)
  • LED Taillights
  • Extra 1,000 lb towing capacity (but no brake controller, so this is a wash)
  • UPDATE: AND FOG LIGHTS
So the Limited is only an additional $3k than the Lariat Lux with the options I have ordered. I would have gladly paid an additional $3k for these features.

But that just shows how much more I like the Maverick over the Santa Cruz. Because I am willing to forgo all those features. My wife has most of these on her van, and I like them. But style counts. And I like aftermarket possibilities. #MaverickFTW
