I stuck a battery powered light up in the middle of my topper. It held Two ‘D’ cells,
Remember those?

The topper on my F-150 came with a built-in light that used two "D" cells. I never used it. I would say a modern cell phone flashlight was brighter.

Only issue is the price. $100 is a lot of coin for $24 in parts.

I think the value is that they took the legwork out of gathering the parts, so you get exactly what is needed without a bunch of extras left over or coming up short on something and having to go to Harbor Freight/AutoZone/wait for Amazon.

The Nissan Frontier folks have something similar with the rear axle breather kits sold by various vendors. I spent like, half the price of a kit. Bought the Toyota rear axle vent barb, 10 feet of fuel injector hose, a universal lawnmower fuel fuel filter, and scrounged around for a couple hose clamps, zip ties, and some pipe thread sealant.

Now you just need the 2 hood struts....get that support out of your way.

Personally I find hood struts to be not very useful. My F-150s and F-250 had them from the factory and I found it pretty inconvenient for doing work right against the firewall, or if I wanted to open the hood further, or less.

I just use the factory prop rod. If it's actually in the way or I want to open the hood higher or less, I just use a Lisle hood prop rod. Also works great to depress the brake pedal or the throttle a fixed amount.
