All good points…..but here is the real killer on fords esp plan…..it covers everything from defects and wear and tear, but excludes any oil or fluid contamination, and that’s why Buschers catch can is a must for those whom plan to keep your Mav for a long time. Don’t believe me? Go to flood esp site, go to faq and read the contract….

I get bumper to bumper, but are there any items the extra warranty would cover that bumper to bumper doesn't? Seat fabric? Buttons for things like A/C? That's the only reason I could think of to have the warranty when purchased.

I will say that "most people" won't buy it later as they forget until it's past the availability to buy it (i.e., too many miles, number of years, etc).

I went to the website. There is a small amount of "fine print" that you all might like to know.

"Remember all Ford Protect plans start at the vehicles original retail date and 0 miles. You can find this date in the FordPass app(please see our faq for help). "

Knowing this, you won't be getting the full X # years more of warranty. Pay for 8 more years, start it when the 3 years is up and still only get 5 additional. (I had this happen with a house A/C unit I bought that's how I know.)

Personally, I'd pay less when I buy the vehicle rather than more later and not have to worry about it or forget to buy it. Besides, who knows if it will be available to buy this way three years down the road. Just some food for though . . .

This is a great way to use those Ford pass points, too!

I don't know about those as this will be my first Ford since 1991, but if they are available go for it! :)

My salesman went through all the extended warranties and by the time he finished my head was spinning 😵💫 I asked how much and he said $10K. I told him I would think about it and left.

I bought an extended warranty on my 2013 CMax hybrid and never used it before it expired and it was $2500.

For $10K I wouldn't have to "think" very long.

Wait to purchase until you’re close to the end of your 3/36. If not you’ll be paying for and wasting years on the contract while you’re still under the factory bumper to bumper. It’s a common misconception that a 5 year ext warranty starts when the original 3 year ends, meanwhile said warranty is really only 2 years past your 3/36. See it all the time.

As far as which ext warranty to go with, I’d just set your sights on a Ford ESP Premiumcare. And whatever you do no No NO Carshield, they are absolute garbage.
As I said above, reagardless of when you buy the warranty it starts when the vehicle was new. A 5 year warranty is only good for 2 year past the 3Yr 36k factory warranty. No matter when you buy it. You can save the money and buy the same warranty at 35 months. But still only get 2 years and have to pay for the price increases of the plan. Either way I recommend waiting because who knows if you’ll even have it anymore.

Never buy warranties or protection plans from the dealership at the purchase of your car. Dealerships have rather low profit margin in new car sales. The profit center of every dealership is the finance room. That's where their bread is buttered. The finance man whose going over those warranties and protection plans is a better salesman than the one on the showroom floor who sold you the car. Just spend the three years putting funds aside that would have otherwise gone to the protection plan. You may find you never needed it and can put those funds as a down payment or cash for another car.

$10k for a $20k truck? Even my XLT lux with extra goodies only came to $28k

0% financing is an option for all PremiumCare warranties. Ford lists it in their own brochure.
Not if you finance it as part of your loan.
