I'm eagerly awaiting a 2/15/22 estimated delivery date for my Mav Lariat here in IL. Has anyone purchased an extended warranty and if so what are the terms and at what price?

I just bought an extended warranty from Flood Ford online last night, and I was able to use the FordPass points I’ve accumulated over the last few years. Much better price than the ~$2,000 I was quoted at the time of purchase.

Well, according to my dealer, Ford does raise the price each year. And I think the extended warranty must be purchased within the first year and the vehicle must have less than 15,000 miles.

Ford ESPs start when the vehicle was first put into service and increase in cost each year. It doesn’t make since to me to buy it at all but that’s how they do it. There are better options with waiting if people must buy it.

You can buy it under 36,000 miles and 3 years. You can also change a plan while within the the warranty. Once your out of the window plans are locked.

Are you buying an Ecoboost or Hybrid? The Hybrid is mostly covered (hybrid systems) for 8yrs / 100k miles anyway. If you have an EcoBoost maybe consider putting the thousand in an ETF for 35 months and gauge how the truck is doing then. If you even still want to keep it.

You also have a 8 year 80,000 emissions warranty. It is smart to have you car tested for emissions before this expires. If it fails emissions Ford is required to repair the following items for free if they caused the issue: catalytic converter, electronic emissions control unit, and onboard emissions diagnostic devices.

It’s a common misconception that a 5 year ext warranty starts when the original 3 year ends, meanwhile said warranty is really only 2 years past your 3/36. See it all the time.

As far as which ext warranty to go with, I’d just set your sights on a Ford ESP Premiumcare. And whatever you do no No NO Carshield, they are absolute garbage.

No, this is NOT true! Your dealer MAKES MONEY selling extended warranties. What incentive do they have to help you save money?

The TRUTH is, you can go to https://fordprotect.ford.com/extended-service-plan any time and get a quote for an extended service plan on your vehicle. If you don't believe me, go to the website and see for yourself. You can choose the number of years of coverage you want, and the number of miles of coverage you want. So, in other words, someone who only drives 10,000 miles a year and wants two years of additional coverage will pay a lower price than someone who drives 20,000 miles a year and wants three years of coverage. It's all up to what you want and need.

As for buying an extended warranty at the time of vehicle purchase, AGAIN, that warranty is going to run CONCURRENT with your factory Ford warranty that is already included with your vehicle. WHY do you need an extended warranty for the first three years and 36,000 miles, when you already have a factory warranty that covers everything from bumper to bumper?

Now, let's say you want an extra two or three years of coverage after that. Well, if you buy a 5 or 6 year extended warranty at purchase, you are PAYING for 5-6 years but only GETTING 2-3 years. Because again, even if you have a warranty claim, it's going to be processed under the FACTORY warranty, not the EXTENDED warranty.

And yes, I am sure Ford does raise the price of its extended warranties each year. But still, you're still going to save money if you just wait to purchase it later. First of all, you'll only be paying for the coverage you need, and second, you'll only be paying for the actual cost of the warranty, and not the warranty PLUS whatever your dealer is marking it up.

Look, you do what you want. But I can't explain it any more clearly. A fool and his money are soon parted!
