The advice to warm up the engine comes from a day when heaters were optional even on Cadillacs, and before you could order anything other than wind to cool the interior . . .
Could be. I was under the impression it was to insure the oil got distributed throughout the engine and getting the engine up to a temperature to where the different parts would operate more smoothly.

Dust, dirt ,pollen, fumes, insects, humidity.. And if driving while the windows are down, NOISE.
I went to my allergist yesterday for the skin test. In short, I'm allergic.

Longer versions is I'm allergic to nearly everything (including dogs) except cats and olive trees . . .

About the first thing he advised me was not to drive convertibles. "Uhh, I have three!"

And moments later, to drive with the windows closed.

Which is not really much of an issue any more, with multi-viscosity motor oils.

That's very true! Thanks for reminding me of that.

Understood, but around these parts from November thru March the advise not to warm up your engine won't be followed by most folks. Unless they have a heated garage.

Wondering how long everyone warms up they’re 2 L eco-boost. I have a neighbor who has a GMC canyon and he warms his truck up for at least 5 to 10 minutes before he drives. Seems excessive.
🤓 I‘ve always heard it’s no necessary to warm up a fuel injected car?

Just turn it on with the auto start button and let it warm up for a minute or two. Turbo cars run a little bit better warm.

it depends on what you're doing with the vehicle.

you can hop right in and start driving as long as you can see out of the windows, which in wintry weather might not be the case. warming up the engine while you scrape snow and ice is a good idea, and you don't get meaningful defrost until the engine hits 2 bars on the temp gauge.

you should avoid giving it full throttle before it's fully warmed up, especially sustained full throttle or towing because that kind of load is really hard on a cold engine block. are you going to break something the first time you do it? of course not. but if you did it routinely, would your engine have a shorter service life? I fully believe yes it would.

I warm up or cool down the car or truck for MY comfort, I don't give a rat's 🫏 about the engine or fuel used doing so.
