I live in Canada and have no problem with the hybrid keeping the cabin warm, even when only driving around town in stop and go traffic. The temp gauge will however rarely indicate full operating temperature in city but there is no lack of heat. The heated seats and wheel also function very well.

back in the day we would never use 5W-30 or 0W-20 oils either,,,
Because the oil journals back then were designed for 10w-40 or 20-40W or what ever to flow correctly and before CNC the space between bearing surfaces was larger to compensate for the machining methods of the day. It took thicker oil to fill them and transfer heat.
I will always use the weight specified never thicker. would not want to slow the flow.
Heat transfer is everything.
Thicker oil is not the answer.

The main reason full synthetic is better is simply all the molecules are very small and of equal size being 'engineered', they fit very closely together for better heat transfer and less chance of bearing surfaces making contact.

Roach oil has a wide range of different sized molecules, meaning more space between each one, less heat transfer and less molecules occupying a given space. Old out of date tech.

An engine spec'd for 5w 0r 0 weight has very small fast flowing oil journals.
Go right ahead and make your oil pump push thicker stuff through. That's just another reason I wont buy used, ever.

I am almost tempted to cut out some carboard and cover the grill in the winter like I did with my old Lexus CT.
At least enough to cover the lower 2 shutter spaces when they were removed.
And then 2 on the lower portion also.
I never saw any comments about software updates when that was initially done - merely removing shutters.
Software updates came later when they figured out what to watch for before an issue occurred.
But my 24 that came after all that was figured out - still missing the total 4 shutters.

I kinda want to find some and put them in - the removal procedure seemed rather simple.

From what I have seen on "car scanner" with my 23 mav hybrid, they do not fully modulate, but have seen 4 different degrees of openness.
When its below 36 degrees, they are open to 46%.
Interesting, I wonder what the software settings are for those settings

Forgot to mention, I do not have any slats removed.
I had to replace the radiator holder.
I noticed that some one mentioned, installing a piece of cardboard, well I did just that, but its between the fan and the engine.
23 mav hybrid.

Are your louvers not working ?

Mine open as the water temp rises to normal.
I get to Four temp bars summer or winter.

2005 to 2012

Ford Escape Hybrid.
Upper midwest.
Cardboard; then later a black vinyl "bra" that coverer the entire front of grille.

Kept it on October to April. Full time. Zero issues. Even on Rocky Mountain Grades.

Warmer air to cabin sooner and EV drive available in town sooner and more of the time.
