When driving around town at low speeds (40-60km) in normal drive mode my transmission often seems reluctant to drop to lower gears so my rpms sit around 1000 which feels awful. I get bogging/rattling up front until I speed up or come to a stop. Is this normal? Are others having similar experience?

I have not noticed that in my XLT eco. How many miles are on your truck? Other has reported some strange happenings in the 1st thousand miles or so until the computer learns.

Could be condensation in the intercooler. I believe this has been a problem on many ecoboosts.
wouldnt be surprised. its been stupidly cold in ontario these last few weeks.

I know what you mean, mine does it too. So did my 2017 2.0 escape that I traded in. I hate when an engine lugs, my escape had paddle shifters, so I could downshift it. I believe it is set up this way for best fuel economy, highest possible gear, but it is annoying. To temporarily stop it from lugging, I gently/lightly jab the throttle to force a downshift, but it up shifts again shortly after.

Yep, same for me. Xl 2.0 and at the same speeds. My only solution is sports mode, but that doesn’t come cheap on gas!
