Electric drive switch over to running engine alone.

My original order was for the hybrid. Thinking it over, I do very little around town driving and over 80% of driving is done at 50-70 mph. Then much of that other 20% is 40 mph. I have not read a exact range of speed where the gas engine takes the load from the electric. Looking at it that way, it seems I would only be loosing about 4 mpg at highway speeds 29 vs 33 mpg. That extra H.P. would be nice on the freeway and in the hills, more so if pulling a 1,500 lb. trailer. Placed my original Hybrid order in Oct. Planning on having the order changed to a 2.0 tomorrow. I was looking at maybe not getting the hybrid until April of next year if that according to the dealership. Maybe I'll not have to wait as long for the 2.0. Any thoughts on my switching over from the hybrid to the ecoboost? Thanks.

So far I can only speak from experience with our C-max(es). Driving down the interstate at 65 mph the car will run on just battery until the gauge reads about 1/3 charge remaining. Then the gas engine will come on and drive the car while the battery recharges up to about 2/3, then the process repeats. There are also times when the gas engine is driving the car up a hill that the electric motor comes on to add an assist. Likewise sometimes driving up a hill with electric the gas engine will come on to assist. The car often will accelerate on an on ramp up to 65-70 on just battery. Our 2015 hybrid C-max has been driven 95,000 plus miles and has been driven at all speeds. In the 69 months we've owned it 46% of the miles have been electric with an overall average of 42.1 mpg. (Yeah I'm one of those who keeps track of every fill-up.) BTW the EPA estimate for the C-max was 42 city/37 hwy/40 combined.
With prices climbing I'm not ready to give up on hybrid economy and be satisfied with mid-twenties mpg.

My Hybrid Mav will actually run on electric at 70 MPH! Of course conditions have to be right.
Charge as to be there, no uphill, yada yada. But I've gone from a Fusion Hybrid 2011 that topped out on electric at 47 or so MPH to now the Mav, and the Mav technology is outstanding.

You can’t lose either way. But the hybrid shines on the highway too if you sometimes hit traffic now and then.

In the hybrid it’s a constant transition from electric motor to ICE at any speed really. If you accelerate from zero at a normal speed, it’ll kick on the ICE for extra power, unless you accelerate really slowly and you would have to do that pretty deliberately (and some people do indeed do that to squeeze more mpg’s). The real trick is that as soon as you get up to speed you can basically mostly coast on minimal use of ICE, and instead do small accelerations and adjustments with battery power. But it’s a constant dance of using a bit of gas here and there no matter what since traffic is rarely at optimal conditions for fuel efficiency. So just don’t think about it like there’s an EV mode up to a certain mph, it’s more interwoven around acceleration and keeping the battery topped up otherwise.

Anyway, if it was me at this point I would be going bananas to get my hands on one and would try to get an ecoboost xlt or lariat Maverick at msrp, so I understand your feelings.

HOWEVER is it possible to just leave your hybrid order in for MY23 and go ahead and put in a new order for ecoboost or meanwhile scour the lands for a dealer stock ecoboost? I assume there’s no guarantee your dealership will get your switched ecoboost order allocated for MY22
