Back before the advent of spry-in bedliners, drop-in liners were all the rage-until the trapped in moisture rusted the bed. My Maverick has the factory drop-in liner, first one I have seen in decades. Is this no longer an issue?

I bought a used 90 Ranger in 1996 with drop in bed liner.
The bed had rust under the liner that I spent a few days cleaning up.
Looked like the liner had worn the paint off over time and then rusted.

The Maverick already has drain holes? I was thinking of drilling some.

They will rust. When the liner moves it scratches off the paint. This is why I bought the SIBL.

Yes, as someone said in a different thread on this same topic " where the floor meets the front wall of the bed".

Some of the ones in the image below are for the cleat tie down bolts, but most are just drain holes. If you have a drop in, those should be drilled out. Same with a spray in.

I had a '97 F-150 with a rubber bed mat in it. The bed never rusted in 22 years of ownership. For my use, the rubber mat is preferable to a plastic liner or SIBL. Easy to pull out to inspect or wash out the bed, then replace the mat.

The plastic bed-liners will rub the paint away, especially if abrasives (stone, sand, dirt etc...) get between it and the metal bed. There's nothing wrong with this type of bedliner as long as you pull it out once a year, clean the bed thoroughly and repair any damage. Being too old and lazy to EVER want to do this again, I went with the spray-in liner... ;)

I had a drop in bed liner in my 15-year-old Dakota, no bed rust. I have a drop in bed liner in my 14 year old ram, no bed rust. I also went with a drop in liner in my Maverick. No worries.

Scratches off the paint exposing bare steel. Prevents good cleaning of the crap that definitely will accumulate between the liner and bed. It will rust depending on where in the world the truck lives.

The team at that decided to mandate drop in bed liners for the lariat and lux packages must not live in Detroit or have to deal with vehicles more than two years old. My guess is the drop in or modular liners cost about $30 each and provide a nice return in perceived value.

Just my experience-based-opinion.

Seen plenty pf videos on youtube when then remove old bed liner it has a ton of crap under it and has rusted wholes. BUT if you never remove it you may never know.

So for those that said they had theirs in the past with no issue DID you ever remove it and really LOOK?

Most never remove them but then get rid of truck and have no idea of all the rust under it. Okay on current F`150 as they are aluminum. Maverick is steel.
