Door Lock Sensors in Cold Weather

I live in central Texas. I purchased my Lariat Maverick the last of December. During the dead of winter, the touch sensors on the door handles work just fine for me. Even when the temperatures were down to the low 60’s.

No, they won’t work with gloves on but I can attest that they will work with a nose when your hands are full. That’s the only other body part that I have tried though.

As a fellow resident of Texas, but a transplant from farther north, this reply made me laugh a little. For those that don't know, Texan perception of "winter" can be a little skewed, as it is entirely reasonable here to be 75 and sunny on Christmas =)

For my fellow Texans, "up north", they have this thing called winter where it gets really cold, like water freezes outside. So, it's like that 1-2 weeks in February we get, except way colder and last for 3-4 months.

No. Only the passenger side is affected when in deep sleep mode. I lived with this daily for 18 months.

That is what I figured is the issue, regarding power save mode with the passenger side not being able to lock or unlock when you touch the door handle on my 2023 Lariat Hybrid. The driver side works perfectly opening and locking, but not the passenger side; i can live with it, since I believe it is a minor issue.

It was slightly annoying. My bigger annoyances were getting in a dark truck with no dome lights during the fall and winter months and not being able to remote start via the app to take the chill off.

I agree, very annoying in the winter time. I never have a problem with deep sleep in the summer months. i guess, just crappy software.

You are lucky. I had it every day regardless of how long of a trip I took.

All vehicles have become computers. If we put our laptops out on the driveway in the cold and rain/snow, we'd probably be unhappy.

I have had the sensor not work in wet or icy conditions once in a while.

Note: 35 miles NW of Austin Texas on 11/10/25 the temp dropped to 38°F. I had to set my home thermostat to heat mode and my hybrid Maverick dcdc converter came on at 15.2 volts when I started it in its insulated garage. Early winter as I don't normally turn home thermostat to heat before Thanksgiving though I will normally put my robe on about middle of October to have my morning cup of coffee on the patio.

Wait, wait….
So you mean that water can actually freeze on it’s own? Like, it rains and turns to ice outside all by itself? God forbid. Why would anyone want to suffer through that. Oh wait, maybe no one wants that. Maybe that’s why so many people are moving to Texas and it’s getting over crowded. At least 8 people per square mile here now.
