I'm not a fan of the rotary shifter, but I'm less of a fan that other vehicles now have. My wifes MDX has a row of buttons that's on the consol, my neighbor has buttons on the dashboard on his Lincoln, my sister has something else on her BMW etc. I miss the grip type on the consol that we had from the 50's (P-R-N-D1, D2) Thunderbirds had them.

It has never bothered me at all. When I get in my wifes Edge I always reach for the non-existent dial to put it in gear.

I don't have an issue with it. There are several threads already on this issue. Just a guess some don't like change, even if it's good. The author of the article even states he only drove a Maverick for 600 miles. Just a guess but doubt if he even tried to get use to it.

Two things I like not having it on the steering column and I like that it's not sticking up in the center console. That being said I miss a split bench seat more than anything. It was nice having the option to have her sit by me, or in her own space.

All in all I like or don't have an issue with the rotary shifter.

Most everyone would prefer a traditional shifter over the rotary one. At best, most people have gotten *used* to the rotary shifter. Ford's own research with the Ranger indicated that truck buyers prefer a traditional shifter.

But will Ford amend the design? Of course not.

Just like European automakers are moving back towards knobs, because of customer preferences. So what does Ford do? Move towards screens.

Doesn’t ’suck’, it rotates, as designed. 0 issues.

[ There’s no way to verify this, but I’d bet there was blowback from Mopar fans when Chrysler produced their ‘push button shifters’ for their automatic transmissions, moving away from a ‘3 on the tree manual tranny’. Oh the horrors it must have triggered!]

Rotary shifter sucks

I'm not a fan of the rotary shifter, are you?
Not a big fan. I miss the old vertical post in my Escape. Good place to rest my hand.
Also, if the sun is shining on the dial, you can't see hat gear you're in unless you look up at the dash.

I like it. Plus I would be lying if I haven’t erroneously taken advantage of the auto shift into park.
There is that feature.
