I hate to be paranoid,, but does my 2024 Maverick report my driving habits to anyone? LexisNexis, ,etc. I know that some vehicles allow you to report the data for a lower insurance premium, but doesn't do it automatically? Thanks. I have to go now, someone's after me. steve

My 2024 have a modem but it won't connect to at&t. Its part of the chip shortage so it's not snitching.

I recommend if you pull fuse #11 you keep it inside your truck in a safe place - people get lost hiking and this may provide a source for emergency responder’s to locate you if you reinsert it before an extreme adventure IMO

if they can find your truck it’s likely they will find you

Mostly insurance companies, banks, law enforcement, and foreign governments buy most of the brokered data. Of course marketing firms. There are individuals like myself, private investigators, and law firms that buy it as well but we are small potatoes on that front and we buy through third party aggregators. Those are just the designed use cases though; the real fun with a cellular modem on your vehicles CAN bus has nothing at all to do with the designed use cases.

I started specializing in offensive cybersecurity and penetration testing about a decade ago, and that fuse will be removed before I roll off the dealer lot and the radio emissions of the truck verified on my spectrum analyzer once it rolls through the garage door at home. If you can see anything about your truck on the Fordpass app about your truck, or start remote, it's snitching.

Ah, no, not really, and i'm one of the many, many "theys" that get paid big bucks to "get" people, so they don't get got in bad, bad ways - and can gracefully recover when they do get breached. It is true though that one of the best ways you don't get got is by not putting things on wide area networks that don't need to be, don't get timely, life-long security updates, etc. Vehicles, critical infrastructure, etc, should never be on a network that you don't maintain access control of every node on the network. I don't need the internet to "get you" anyway, but it makes it trivially easy to do so from anywhere on the planet, which is not an ideal situation for many things, to put it mildly

No one really likely cares about your vehicle from an individual point of view unless you're a VIP, but bulk connected equipment is by far the most attractive target for 5GW sabotage, and for people that just want to have fun breaking large numbers of things; most of us live in the country that is the most attractive 5GW target on the planet - 91%+ of new cars are connected, and it's a comically bad idea. It's one of the largest economic value unsecured bulk endpoint targets on the planet.

My odometer tells my wife when I have gone on an extended crank up the tunes drive. Not sure if that counts. Actually the dial set at 20 also gives that away. Now back to Motley Cue and Girls Girls Girls.

The vehicle’s Black Box record a lot of data some of which can be used by the police in fault accidents or other situations. They can retrieve the data via a warrant. Consider that someone or thing is watching you

I have been working on a project to put a power seat from an XLT with the LUX package in my '25 XLT Hybrid. I was working on the passenger seat first. When I removed the OEM and installed the LUX package seat I got an airbag warning light. Determined that the weight sensor in the passenger seat is calibrated and the truck remembers the calibration.

That same day I got an email from Ford saying I needed to bring it in for service and it was unsafe to drive. The next day I got a Phone call from Ford saying the same thing.
