It sounds like there's 2 different options here: 1) Lane keeping assist (I don't know the actual terms) which just nudges you back to center when you veer a little, and 2) Lane keeping which allows you to drive hands free.

My Maverick won't allow me to drive hands free; it just nudges me back to center.

Lane-Keeping system. What you have.
The 2024–2025 Ford Maverick offers a standard Lane-Keeping System that uses a camera to detect lane markings, providing steering torque (Aid) or steering wheel vibration (Alert) to prevent unintentional drifting. It activates above 40 mph and features adjustable sensitivity, with Lane Centering (via Co-Pilot 360 Assist) offering more active steering support.

Mavs only have the former. The latter is called “Blue Cruise” and isn’t available If you take your hands off the wheel after 10 or so seconds the display tells you to put your hands back on the wheel. If you ignore that it’ll start slowing the trucklet down.

Lane Keeping: as equipped in my 2022 Hybrid XLT;

Does not require Cruise Control to be on.

Does require a minimum speed. Sometimes 40 mph. But sometimes works as low as ~36 MPH.

Does not ever turn off.
Does not slow the truck down.
I've gone 2 minutes / 2 miles hands free on straight deserted Nevada highway.
Beeper was going off most of that 2 minutes.*

*Not recommended to go hands free. Ever. I did it with hands at the ready hovering an inch above the wheel and paying attention just to see how the system worked.

It's not fun. It's not a great system.
It's different than lane centering. It's driving, (steering) but driving drunk.

Mine crosses over the white (fog) line, then corrects. Then crosses over the yellow (center) line, then corrects. Feels like ping-pong or bumper bowling.

I use it rarely. Mostly when opening a can of soda, or bottle with a lid, and for 5 seconds. I don't like the feature in general.

Only time I use it is when I need both hands for a second or two.
But !
I prop my knee against the steering wheel just like I used to do without this system.
I can steer on a straight section with my knee but with this system the pressure/contact alone steers me while I blow my nose.

The only feature I like is the set minimum following distance while in cruise control.

Auto braking over brakes,
Lane hold will let you down,
Overall to me in my not so humble opinion
These features are as useless as tits on a bore, Or hen shit on a pump handle.
