Just bought the xlt hybrid without a bedliner or mat.
I'm not looking to spend a lot on accessories and stuff, but I want to maintain it well.
Looking to DIY brush on the bedliner, but I have no idea how to disconnect the tailgate. It also has a tailgate anti-theft lock, which makes it even more complicated. I don't even have tools.
Can I just not remove the tailgate and still be able to pull it off?

I wouldn't see why not. Do the walls of the bed first, let them dry. Then do the floor of the bed and when that dries, do the tailgate. I wouldn't over think it. Post pics when you are done.

Curious, which brush liner are you planning on doing? And do you know how it compares to the DIY spray in liners?

The manual contains the directions how to remove the tailgate. You have to angle it just right to pull out the right side and slide out the left. I "coated" the entire bed area including the sides of the tailgate and truck.

I had originally ordered my XLT
as a factory option because of constraints, I decided to let my dealer do it at the same price locally.

I recently did my father's bed using Herculiner and DID NOT remove the tailgate and it was super easy. The finish came out pretty great, I found that brushing it on gave way better results as opposed to rolling it on which was contrary to my thought that rolling it on would come out better. Take your time masking and make sure you buy a good mixer and mix the bedliner very frequently in order to get the gritty material dispersed equally. The first coat will look like crap but then the second coat will look great. I got the Herculiner kit for him for father's day for $90 with a coupon code at Advance Auto Parts. Between sanding, cleaning, prepping and applying two coats it took me about 24 hours. Also, FYI, I did not split it into parts and do walls first, I just started at the rear window area and worked my way towards the tailgate.

Lots of blue tape, makes it clean, do tailgate last, leave on. Try to get in shade if possible.
