I've had the truck for about 6 months now, and this is my first DIY addition. The only factory option I got was the bed extender. I really don't like it much. The shape is too round. The aftermarket one I installed on my last Ranger was rectangular and much better. After picking up multiple buckets of cat litter at Petco, I decided it needed a divider. It is made from untreated 2x10 ($16 at Home Depot). The truck is garaged and I work from home, so it won't be out in the weather much. I may paint it later.
I sized it to fit tightly against the extender and the tailgate. The short piece is 27 1/4" and the long piece is 42 3/4". The long piece could vary in length depending on how far from the tailgate you want it to sit. I did not fasten the pieces to each other, to allow for disassembly. The D-ring anchors (Harbor Freight) and the short bungees (motorcycle shop) are probably overkill, but I had them in the Magic Toolbox, so no extra cost.
Spring is almost here and I expect this will be useful for trips to the garden center.
