... Is it reading the road ahead off the navigation maps, or is it reading the road signs with the windshield camera like the speed limit recognition? I'd love to find out.
I've seen some users turn on Sign recognition with Forscan, but it isn't the default, at least on the pre '25 models. I've also read they have had issues with it reading a sign on the frontage roads and quickly slowing the vehicle down to that speed !

True, but in my experience it happens only on the highway. Here we have signs reading:
100km/h
Maximum
---------
60km/h
Minimum

Sometimes as you pass one of those it'll miss the 100 km/h part and set the cruise control to 60km/h ... on highway trips I usually turn off speed sign recognition to avoid that.

Otherwise it works fine. And in some areas it shows a lower / higher speed limit coming up before the sign is visible ... must be reading from a database or something

I don't understand how a minimum speed limit works. If it's inclement weather, like heavy snow, rain or fog, it probably wouldn't be safe to travel at that speed. I realize that 60km/h is only about 37mp/h but I've driven in bad weather that I can't see far enough ahead to stop from that speed.

AFAIK It's to make sure scooters and farm equipment that aren't able to go 60 km/h don't go on the highway. You don't HAVE to go 60+ km/h at all times, otherwise traffic jams would be illegal

my wife's 25 Lariat is definitely reading them--it even picks up the 5mph sign in my church parking to, which I'm pretty sure wouldn't be in ford's database!

It also tends to pick up speeds from adjacent parallel routes and acceleration lanes.

otherwise traffic jams would be illegal
now that is a pleasant thought!

(I've maintained for years that rubbernecking should carry mandatory jail time!)

Just answered my own question, it's got the frikkin Edge ST transmission!!! I'm sick to my stomach now because I could have tuned that sucker bigtime, but I just had to that 4k tow pack!
It’s the same transmission as the other mavericks. Just different software to make shifts more responsive. It also skips one of the gears. So it’s a seven speed rather than and eight speed. . But it’s the same physical transmission

is the FWD hybrid really 1 second slower 0-60 than the AWD version or is google AI BSing me?

I guess it is easy to get the front tires to slip.....

Being somewhat heavy footed off the line my FWD hybrid spins tires more than most other vehicles I've had. I'm sure it's due to the added instant torque of the electric motor.

The only vehicle I had that spun them more was the 2019 RAM Promaster van I traded for the Maverick. It had a 280HP V6 + 6-spd auto and as a cargo van, the first 3 gears had fairly low ratios for pulling heavy loads off the line. Being FWD it took very little to spin the front tires from a stop.

It’s mind boggling how Ford could have bungled the transmission gearing this badly.

Once they figured out that 2nd gear was useless and going from 1 —> 3 was faster, they should have used the old 1st gear ratio for second, then made a new fist gear ratio that significantly lower and used it as a granny gear for the AWD modes.

That would make too much sense, plus they'd be giving people something useful without getting extra $$$ for it, which clearly can't happen. ;-)

Changing one gear ratio is not as straightforward as you would think. The gears ratios in a eight-speed transmission or obtained by applying and releasing various clutches and combination to combine gears and create the design number of ratios. The following is a basic breakdown of how each gears chieve. Note that the a clutch is used in first through sixth gear. So making first gear a lower ratio would also change the ratios of 2 through 6. Eliminating second gear was simple because no components had to be changed. The only thing that was different was the fact that the F clutch is now only applied in 8th gear. When all eight speeds are used second gears created by the combination of the a clutch and F clutch . Second gear was easily eliminated because second and third gear ratios are very close. So it was almost unnecessary. It's not used anymore in the other applications such as the edge 1.5 either. I think the only reason it's used in the Maverick is because it may be useful in towing applications where the extra gear comes in handy. Another piece of trivia is that the 8 speed (8F) family of transmissions is primarily a GM design. GM has 9 ratios. But for eliminated a gear because it wasn't necessary. And after they used it in their vehicles they found that in most cases only seven ratios were necessary. In exchange for the front wheel drive 8-speed from GM, Ford supplies the 10 speed rear wheel drive to the GM for use in their trucks
Key Components & Their Function
A Clutch: Applies in 1st through 6th gears and holds the output sun gear shell from turning.
B Clutch: Applies in 4th, 6th, and Reverse gears.
C Clutch: Applies in 3rd and 7th gears.
E Clutch: Applies in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th gears.
F Clutch: Applies in 2nd and 8th gears.

I've had various manual transmissions open and could see how they work.

For automatics it's always been a black box to me. I've changed fluid, filters and input/output seals, but you can't just spin the input and see the various pieces move and change on a bench like on a manual. Thank you for that insight.

Back in the day my amazing new ā€˜83 GTI did 9.7 to 60 Car & Driver time.
But yeah at a red light where you’ll need to jump and merge over — never had an issue.
Even most of the full-size V8 trucks make a lot of noise but don’t accelerate any faster.
The SoCal Rivians wanna race but I just let them go lol.
-But the joy of the Hybrid Mav is just driving it mellow with all the windows down like you just drove off a farm ha.

Nah, the 700R4 on my '93 Fleetwood made something clear to me. (it's the 4 speed descendent of the Turbo 350).

After changing the filter and fluid due to problems, the fluid was back again.

So I jacked it up, started cleaning and looking around.

There was a cracked board inside (looked like a PC board, actually). I touched it, and ball bearings started raining down on my face and down the driveway.

A clear message, but being a guy, I have no idea what it was!

In the mid 80s, I was behind the wheel while out with my friends.

Stopped at a red light on a three lane street, the two little ricers next to me were racing their engines at one another to race.

The light turned, they raced--and without a particularly heavy foot, I passed them both in my Impala 400.

Oh, the looks of disbelief on their faces.
