Apples to apples.
The absolute cheapest Rav4 awd hybrid is $3500ish more in real world dealer quotes on Truecar than the Mavetick XL awd hybrid.

Demand for hybrid versions of Rav4 & Highlander has always been higher than standard & Toyota has got its fanboys willing to pay over sticker for hybrid to avoid an artificially ridiculously long delivery time.

Toyota has convinced its devotees that a Toyota hybrid is the holy grail of enlightenment...NEVER tell a Toyota devotee about Toyotas deivetrain subsidiary Aisin engineering & building the hybrid drivetrain for Ford Escape for 3 years before adapting the same hybrid drivetrain to the Rav4.
"NOOOO Noooo its not the same drivetrain...ok same metallurgy and cloned design where only a very trained eye could tell apart the Escape & Rav4 hybrid drive when disassembled...but Noooo the Toyota one they run on "Synergy" its a secret blue thing, that Synergy badge means it has a chunk of magic Toyota blue dust inside to give you magic enlightenment"

So the new hybrid is 8/10th’s slower to 60 and to the quarter than the ecoboost is. Not horrible. And it’s better than it used to be.

On the RAV4, it is not way more expensive than the Maverick. They start at $28,850. And if you get the rav4 prime, the one that IS way more expensive ($44,565) than the Maverick, it is also 300 hp, 0-60 in 5.5 sec and 1/4 mile in 14.0 sec.

I think the 2-3 shift was like that on all the torqueflite derived models, and it was almost like trying to be in 2 gears at once,
The first Model T I ever drove was, well . . .

The transmission worked by clamping down bands. on the motor. Even the "brake" pedal was a band clamping down to slow things--the primary brake was the handbrake (which also could put it in neutral ).

Anyway, one of the two forward gears was never really disengaging. Aside from making it impossible to push the car, it made reverse, well, and adventure. Engaging reverse would cause a 10-20 fr leap backwards, and then stall.

ord kept the official numbers the same though. So I'm wondering if the combination of hybrid versus engine has been altered a bit to give the same total numbers but changes the power curve to make it more effective.
There could be computer imposed limits, too. On the powerboost f150, for example, the combined torque of the ice & electric is more than the 10R80 transmission can handle at some points, so it's capped. (why they don't come up with a 10R100 for it is beyond me. But it also means no turbo lag, as the electric maxes out torque while the turbos spin up).
