Well, at least the OP's question lead to real info. Thank you, Darnon.
Found the service manual information on the system:

Vacuum On Demand System

On vacuum boosted vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine, vacuum is supplied to the brake booster through the use of a valve solenoid and an aspirator in the brake booster vacuum tube. When the ABS module detects a low vacuum condition in the brake booster, a message is sent to the PCM requesting additional vacuum. The PCM responds by opening the valve solenoid which allows the engine to draw air from the brake booster, increasing vacuum in the booster. Once the vacuum in the booster has reached the required level, the ABS module stops sending the message and the PCM closes the valve solenoid.

Plastic valve covers are not very nice to look at........goes outside to see if you can wrap valve covers with carbon vinyl

I think it's refreshing seeing the engine. It reminds me of the good old days.
Difference is, there was less junk in the good ol' days... engines were nicer to look at.

Maybe this is why so many people are spending time and money putting engine covers BACK on these engines!
If it is a thing do you at cars and coffee to show off a NEW mini trucks engine compartment I say go for it .For me I just keep the hood closed , mainly cause the engine is covered with dirt and mud all the time from the silt beds, sand washes of our deserts and mountain puddles of the fire roads I love to beat it through.
I would go for the ford performance cover someone found in Europe , that one looks the best I think.
But that valve to the left IS necessary .
The other tube is just smog recirc , but may cause trouble code if blocked off .
Brian, I have 28 of those covers on the way. I also have about a dozen of the same covers but they are blems. Some sanding and black engine cover paint makes them look good just not as good as the good ones.

I am going to put a giant sticker of a V8 on my hood, one that looks realistic. Everyone will think that my hood is off and I have a really big engine in there.

Just may be the number 1 reason. Thanks for your comment. Guess a lot of people don't care for esthetics. I love the comments on here from the Hybrid owners. I don't remember posting under the Hybrid 2.5 power train section. Except for Darnon and Oscarcat, much respect for them.
Must not say anything that might even imply the ecoboost has any advantage over the hybrid or they will come at you. you have been warned.

Most of it is caused by lack of posting which model of maverick is being commented about. Perhaps each separate post should start with "EB" or "HY".

A buddy of mine has one of each. A 2022 XLT FX4 (EB) and a 2023 XLT Hybrid. We talk crap about them both.

Well to me the good old days aren't that far back.
Also, it's easier to see any problems like leaks or cracks in hoses for example.
I would emagine engine covers would hold in lots of heat on all these rubber and plastic parts too.

Does anyone know how and if this hose can be removed? There is an electrical connector on the valve/solenoid thing. There are pictures of it gone on some mavericks.
Yup!
I’d take it off!
I’m thinking of taking off one of my rear wheels. I figure that it will reduce rolling resistance, and give me a second spare tire.

It will also increase your gas mileage.
