There's a saying... "You can have it good, you can have it fast, or you can have it cheap. Pick two."
Ford gave us the Maverick... Cheap, Good, (well maybe), but certainly not fast. Now I'm also wondering about Good.
Check out this latest news about another recall, this time the airbags. Maybe I'm happy at the delay because it will give them more time to swat the bugs?

You look at the Maverick closely, it's filled to the brim with saved pennies.

One thing Ford was crowing about when the Maverick was released... They took a year out of the test and development program. They were really proud of that.

Makes sense, being the lowest priced Hybrid as well as truck on the market.

"You can pay me now, or you can pay me later"
They might have initially saved a few pennies, but now they get to pay for all these recalls. Shortcuts are rarely a good idea. It's also hurting the brand.
I owned Chevy Vega back in the early 70's. It was initially popular. But it wasn't long before it gained the reputation of being one of the worst cars ever built. I never bought another Chevrolet after that.

Sort of, instead of in-house test and development, they are letting the consumer test and debug in real world conditions.

What's hard for me to understand is that if Ford took the Escape and put a pickup cab and bed on top why are there so many issues? There really isn't much new technology in the Maverick. I agree that the delay should be beneficial in correcting the mistakes. Hopefully, by the time I get my 23 ordered and built the bugs will be worked out.

I agree, this is the only reason I haven't gone completely crazy waiting for my 7/22/21 order to be built. I'm hoping they have a solution for the hybrid battery cable before mine gets built.

Also don’t forget that it was developed during Covid. People testing the vehicle probably had to wear masks and probably only one person in the car. Many engineers probably worked from home most of the time. Testing in climatic wind tunnels etc probably was tough or shortened due to shutdowns and lack of labor.

If a surgeon can do it while holding a heart, I think the engineer will be ok.
Just remember an engineer doesn't get paid $20,000 an hour.

I’m an engineer at for several years I was an automotive test engineer. I did testing at the transportation research center, cold weather testing in Baudette Minnesota, hot weather testing in Death Valley and climatic wind tunnel testing in multiple locations. I’m no longer an automotive engineer but during Covid most every engineer, where I worked, we worked from home in general. We couldn’t get together to look at problems in person via meetings etc. The meetings were all virtual. I went into work more than most but I wear glasses and they would constantly fog up so if I had the choice and could get my work done I worked from home. Collaboration was curtailed unless virtual. I’m just saying Ford likely had similar experiences. It was probably tough to be as thorough as non Covid times. That’s my thought. I don’t know this for a fact. I just think it’s plausible and likely made development less efficient.
