I have seen other posts where the vin number denotes the number of mavs built during the model year. Just got my vin but cannot figure this out. It ends in B017xx. I do not think I am only the 17xx Mav being built.

The letter increments every 100k.

So now we know at least 101,763 have (or will) be built. It would be nice to know how many are still in queue without a VIN assigned.

I believe NRBO1763 simply means that yes there is a NRA01763 which is built in the 1st 100,000… so B means the next set of numbers. Every digit in a VIN means something…. Manufacturers, plant, model line, model year, equipment etc.

Here's an example of a VIN breakdown.

3FT-T-W8F-9-1-N-R-A05473

3FT- Ford Mexico - World manufacturer identifier
T-Restraint system - brake system, gross vehicle weight rating, restraint devices and their locations.
W8E-Maverick Front wheel Drive - Make, Vehicle line, series, body type
or
* W8F Maverick All wheel drive
3 - 2.5 Hybrid - Engine or motor type
or
9- engine type 2.0 Ecoboost - Engine or motor type
1 - Check Digit - Used to detect fraudulent VINs
N-year code for 2022 - Model year
R Hermosillo Plant - Assembly Plant
A00000-Z99999- Sequential Vehicle Identifiers - Production sequence number.

The check digit, found in position 9 of the VIN and compulsory for vehicles in North America, is used to validate a VIN. This is helpful for computers to immediately tell if there is an error or issue with the VIN. The check digit is calculated by removing all of the letters and substituting them with their appropriate number counterparts. You then take those numbers and multiply them against a weight factor table. You then have 16 numbers which you add together and divide by 11. The remainder is the check digit. If the remainder is 10, then the check digit is “X."

Year Code:

Starting with 1980, Letter of the Alphabet designate years except I, O, Q, U, and Z to avoid confusion.

A=1980
B=1981
C,D,E,F,G,H,J,K,L,M,N,P,R,S,T,V,W,X
Y=2000
1=2001
2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9
A=2010
B-2011
C,D,E,F,G,H,J,K,L,M,N
K=2019
L=2020
M=2021
N=2022
P=2023
R=2024

Thanks all! Interesting how that works. Never thought 22 would go over 100K built. I still have only seen like 5 Mavs in the wild. Maybe not to many in NJ.

Does this include Bronco Sport?
Except for VIN Positions 5,6,7, all other positions should follow protocol.

It depends on which model:

W8E (4x2) and W8F (4x4) are codes for the Maverick

R9A Bronco Sport Base
R9B Bronco Sport Big Bend
R9C Bronco Sport Outer Banks
R9D Bronco Sport Badlands
R9E Bronco Sport Wildtrak (S America)
