YOU SHOULD NOT SPEND YOUR $ AT THE DEALER

My suggestion :

1st OIL & Filter change at 500 miles
2nd: OIL & Filter change at 2,500 miles
3rd: Oil & Filter change at 5,000 miles

After that, follow these guidelines:

  • Every 5,000 miles (or sooner) if you're using Ford's blend oil (minimal requirements....)
  • Every 7,000-9,000 miles if you're using 100% synthetic oil, such as AMSOIL (Note: This is different from "fully synthetic" oils commonly found in stores).
My recommendation:

Do not change your oil at 500 then 2500 then 5000 miles. Not necessary. Oil analysis proven not needed. Wasteful.

Do:
Full synthetic oil. Change oil every 10,000 miles or 12 months.

1st change that soon - Even though OP's hybrid engine may have only had 250 miles on it - and not even out of the stated break-in period of 1000 miles?
The first 2,000 miles are essential for the life of any engine. During the initial break-in period, countless microscopic metal particles circulate within the engine as components settle into place. The primary goal of an early oil change is to remove these particles as soon as possible to prevent unnecessary wear.

Using a 100% synthetic oil with elevated levels of molybdenum and boron provides superior anti-wear protection, exceeding standard requirements. These additives help reduce friction and maintain tight tolerances within the engine, ensuring long-term durability. In my experience, this approach has allowed me to reach over 300,000 miles on my BMW M54 engine—without ever needing to open or repair the internals. My Ford 2.7L Ecoboost has followed the same path and runs just as strong.

For over 22 years, I have used Amsoil products, but any high-quality 100% synthetic oil will offer excellent protection. This is the plan I intend to follow for my 2025 Ford Maverick.

Additionally, I apply a similar strategy to other drivetrain components:

  • Transmission: Service at 10,000 miles and every 30,000 miles thereafter
  • Front and Rear Differentials: Same intervals as the transmission
For these services, I will also use Amsoil products to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Breaking in an engine properly ensures that internal components such as pistons, rings, and bearings seat correctly. A well-executed break-in process reduces the risk of premature wear and helps achieve peak performance and efficiency over the vehicle’s lifespan.

This proactive maintenance approach, though seemingly early, has proven effective in keeping engines running strong for hundreds of thousands of miles. I plan to drive mine for 300.000 miles on the next 7-8 years

Best of luck with your new Maverick!

An additional and very important point to my previous comment: Neither of my two cars mentioned above ever required adding oil between intervals—not a pint, not even half a quart. A proper break-in period is essential for ensuring the long life and optimal performance of an engine.

Don't forget that it's not just about measuring oil consumption. The oil is diluted with fuel which causes viscosity breakdown. With extended drains it's helpful to do oil analysis to make sure it is holding up to maximize the life of the engine.

My 2023 xl calls for 0w-20 FULL SYNTHETIC OIL according to the manual....I had it changed at my dealership and the report shows ow -20 blended synthetic oil....after calling them, they said that it is ok.... is it or should I have it redone ...ty
Why worry about it if done at A Ford dealer. Do you think they dont know the kind of oil it needs. I was A Ford mechanic 38 years and we used Ford oil.

Waist of money and oil.

Well, while I can understand why someone might see it that way, I prefer to view it as a long-term investment in my vehicle.

Clean oil and a clean oil filter = a clean engine.
A clean engine = maximum efficiency and durability.

By using the best quality 100% synthetic oils and the highest-grade oil filters, I aim to maintain my engine in optimal condition for the long run. This approach helps ensure the engine stays clear of harmful deposits and performs at its peak for hundreds of thousands of miles.

For me, this isn’t a waste—it’s an investment in reliability, performance, and longevity.

I haven't relied on anyone to change my oil for over 30 years now, but there were many times when I did that the dealer had to change it twice because they filled with the wrong oil on the first "attempt". So yes, I don't think they always know the kind of oil it needs. They always put Motorcraft oil in it, yeah, I'll give you that.
