So.... early adopter here.

Got my first Ford Escape Hybrid in 2005.
Noticing the engine was off a lot of the time, Installed an engine run time clock. Wired it so that it only counted time when the engine was running. Which is what the on board OCI computer does these days.

I read with dino oil you should change it after 150 to 250 hours of run time.

I read with synthetic blend: 180 to 250 hours.

Full synthetic: 250 to 350 hours.

I was usually hitting 200 hours at about 10,000 mile intervals in my conditions.

Ford's programming takes into account how "hard" the engine is working, and the service interval is automatically adjusted based on that. If you pull a trailer, drive a lot of mountains, or spend a lot of time idling, it reduces the oil change interval automatically. But regardless of how you drive, Ford states that the monitor will remind you to change the oil when a full year has elapsed since your last oil change.
I didn't know that, but had to verify it... :cautious:

I'm using full synthetic, and doing tire rotation and oil/filter change every 6,000 miles

I think what a lot of people forget is the reason oil gets black in the first place. Carbon from combustion thats scraped into the oil pan by the oil control rings on all the pistons. Top 2 rings are compression, bottom ring is an oil ring. If you change your oil at 10K instead of much earlier, those deposits have time to settle in the nooks and crannies inside the engine, and build up. They will also start to build up in the oil passages and on the bearings on the turbo leading to premature failure. How to prevent that or severely lessen that is to change it more frequently before it has 5-10k on it. My old chevy HHR 2.2 has 150K on it. I did a valve cover gasket on it. Everything inside was clean with a thin brown coating on the parts. No crusty buildup. I never ran synthetic either. Just 3000 mile oil changes. Ramps, a filter wrench, and a drain pan are cheap. Ditto for synthetic at walmart or big box stores. Oil filters from ford are about $4

Totally too frequent & unnecessary changes with a hybrid and a waste of time and money.
For my hybrid was easy since kept a running tab on the mileage since new. Did the oil change with 4,568 miles on gas power around 8.5k mileage. Don't remember if it was 80% oil live. Go to a local guy for oil changes for $58 so it maybe wasting $5-10 a year. No big deal in my book.

Will probably just go with 80% oil life in the future. Also the factory installed oil filter is tiny!

Just did my first oil change at 3825. A little late for me I was shooting for 2500 just to get the manufacturing residuals out. (personal preference)
I will be changing my oil every 3k or so, or every six months. Motorcraft Syn/blend Mobil 1 filter, could not get Motorcraft.
Most of my driving is in town not daily either, once a month a 500+ mile round trip on the interstate. The best and cheapest thing you can do to preserve your motor is changing the oil more often than not. The manual's service intervals the dealer will do. Let them rotate the tires and grease and inspect what needs to be done.
