If they try to jack up the price just walk away. I’m glad I did that in 2022. I recently bought a 24 Lariat coot with black out package and 4k tow for $6000 below invoice. No dealer fees just tax tags doc stamp. $36000 out the door
If you walk away, they win. They make more than the markup and you get nothing. It all comes down to, what is the markup, how much, why, and deal with it.

They will cave. Walk away you will get a call in a day or two offering you the vehicle at MSRP.
BEEN THERE DONE THAT WITH THE Santa Cruz when it came out. I placed order with deposit. When it came in they tried the 10,000 ADM. I walked away. Looked at the dealer lot a week later it was still there then came a phone call offering the original MSRP. I TOLD THEM that I had already requested my refund and had bought another vehicle. There loss because we will never buy another vehicle from their mega corporation

I disagree! If you walk away you win because some other dealer will want your business. AND it might teach that original dealer that bad news travels fast and others will walk too! That means quit treating customers like crap. My pet peeve is when they ask "What can we do to earn your business " and then they pull s*** like that.

I hate car buying... Every one of them lie to you...Oh there's not much markup in this model, which of course is anything you're buying.

I was trying to make a deal a few years back on a GMC in Reno NV. They had a great price advertised and it was speced exactly how I wanted it. When we got into negotiations I find they are trying to charge about $1950 over msrp for paint protection, interior protection, theft etching on the windows, same etching on the battery even. They said it could not be removed because it had already been done! A $600 Doc fee on top of that. I told them to take a hike and hung up. Next day they called and offered to cover 1/2 of the upgrades but nothing could be done with Doc Fees. I said no. Later that day they called again stating it was month end and they needed to sell the truck to make their quota. $500 for the adds plus $600 Doc Fee and it was mine so I agreed because it truly was the color and everything I wanted. This was a Tuesday, I told them I had a trip coming up that weekend so I would be up there tomorrow morning to pick it up and to have it ready. He blurted out that wouldn't work because it was showing to be delivered on Friday, it was still in transit. WHAT??????? I chewed him up one side and down the other and called him every phony name in the book!!! How could all these dealer scam adds be already put on a truck that hasn't even hit the ground! I hung up on him and immediately called Chevrolet Concierge and within 3 hours I received a call back from their general manager. They offered me the truck for $4000 off of msrp. I said fine but I won't pay a Doc fee, I pay my secretary and accountant and you need to pay yours. He said he had to charge it to legally be fair to all other customers but he would take another $600 off the truck to compensate. I told him fine but I would only deal with him and it would be best if "Todd" the lying salesman not be around Friday afternoon when I got there.
Deal done, or so I thought, the good and the bad to follow. The good was I get there on Friday, the truck had actually unloaded Thursday afternoon and thier service department had grabbed it and put every scam add on it by mistake. Lol, that was their loss. The bad was I sat down to do all the paperwork and they slid a non disclosure agreement in front of me to sign saying I would never talk to anyone again about what had happened and what they tried to pull on me. I blew up, threatened to call Chevrolet again, but told them I would sign if they agreed to draw up a legal document stating they would never charge another customer these fake addition dealer profit scams ever again. Of course they wouldn't agree to that, I signed everthing but the non disclosure and drove off with my new truck.
These dealer paint protection scams are a spray on product they add to the rinse water when they wash it for delivery. The interior protection is a rattle can of Scotchguard they spray on, $8.00 at the parts house. The window etching is a grit serial number on some tape they put on the window an roll it with a steel roller that etches the number into the glass. Then they reused one of them on the battery case to get an additional $35 from the customer. You can buy these kits yourself for $25.00 and most of that cost is to register that # with an insurance company. It's usually good for 1 to 3 years and then you have to pay annually to keep it up. Oh, and another trick charge was for the plastic film door edge guards that actually were already on a new truck they were just unloading! Be careful, there are scams galore out there. I think it was California that has a law that $200 is the max Doc Fee they can charge. So some of them add up to $1000+ and call it "Doc Fee and Concierge Service". Ripoff Artists!!
Sadly, this is very typical of so many stealerships.

Thanks and you're right; that's exactly how it went. I've talked to the dealer and the price won't change much, only going up for a couple of fees.
Look in MTC for a thread about Mustang Club of America where when you sign up you will get a discount. The thread will tell you everything. It saved me close to $800 & less doc fees.

Not sure what's so funny. Our smaller dealers up in Montana will do a discount like that daily!
No way a dealer would do $6000 below invoice on a Maverick. The margins are very slim on a Maverick. Now, on the other hand, the F-150 has very large margins!

Bozeman Montana, in 2019 I bought a leftover 2017 mustang grabber blue, last one in nation. I got it for 11k off msrp. lol Sat inside for 2 years just waiting to get sold. I drove it for 2 years and sold it for more I paid for it

just posting because he said Montana and I got a great deal. I got full manufacturer warranty and everything, started when I bought it.

but sucked I couldn’t get new car finance rates because it was past the age requirement for new car loans

he had a brand new Shelby or whatever behind it and asked if I wanted it, it was like 10 years old. 0 miles, I said nah I passed. Whoever bought that prob made bank after.

Markups are not really a thing anymore.

Mavericks are available on lots with no markups.
