I have some serious questions from this thread.

1. I've seen so many people talk about "calling Ford corporate" over the years. I've never, ever, been able to successfully reach a human the few times I've tried. Do people really ... talk to humans at Ford Corporate? How?

2. Aside from OP's (unfortunate) situation, where he approved the service, has anyone ever tried disputing the charge with their CC company, for fraudulent upsells?
A buddy just had a hard to find transmission go tits up in his 8 year old loaded to the max Chevy pick up. Dealer left him hanging for a week. Said they couldn’t find one.
A lady he knows has been waiting three months for the same tranny.
He called the corporate GM headquarters.
Both transmissions (Remanufactured), arrived at his dealer four days later.
Just sayin.

The main reason the OP got screwed is because of people’s short attention span and lack of the Will to fight.
The dealer knows most will lay down and take it up the,,,,,,,
I’m retired, got loads of time. I’m like the terminator, I will not stop.
In today’s world sheep loose wolves rule.

I am not a sheep.

At 9,200 miles you DEFINITELY only needed the oil change. Nothing more. Our normally upsell happy service writers don't sell the induction service until at least 30,000. And that's usually still too early. I'm not really a fan of it. Maybe at 80,000 if then would be my personal preference. Brakes generally are considered in the "yellow" at 5mm or less. That's when we say it's POSSIBLE that they'll need new pads at the NEXT oil change. We don't usually mark them RED until 3mm. That means it's possible that they'll need replacement before the next service

This why I will never go to any dealer, except for warranty/recalls. Never went to a dealer for an oil change.

Those brake pads should last AT LEAST 100K miles, unless you are always jamming on the brakes. Stealerships.....

The Neighbor friends up the Street [Mom & Son] She's 93 took their 2022 Escape in for an Oil Change at a different Ford Dealership than they bought it at and I don't like I'll explain here. It has 6,000 miles on it and they told them It needs brake pads I told My friend I think they're full of crap. The same dealership years ago told My brother the flywheel on His F-150 was cracked and that's the noise He was hearing. My brother put the Truck on ramps took inspection cover off and kept turning engine over He found no cracks. They wanted $1,200.00 to replace the flywheel which wasn't bad it was the starter that was bad and making the noise.

I've gotten thru many times. In my case it did no good. You just get more of the same, blah blah blah stuff. Don't worry you still have a warranty.

I have 2 very trustworthy shops I use. Know both personally. Never have the fake upsells. Had a tire shop (Just tires) patch a tire and he tried selling me brake pads on my Flex because they "were at 2mm" this a week after my Mechanic checked the whole car front to back and Found NOTHING to replace. I told him they were replaced 6,000miles before, and are still like new. He says normally they are $499 but we can do $399. (Just for the fronts) I told him fix the tire and scam someone else. Year later, my brakes still look great. Loser.

Appreciate the response. You .... got through? To live people? :: stands in awe of you ::

I've only ever got to recordings telling me how happy I'm going to be speaking to my local Ford dealer.

Not really worried if I have a warranty - more like, do I really have to take someone to small claims court to get them to stand by it?

Correct! So much misinformation - I 100% agree.

Follow the OLM (oil life monitor) - don't be a sheeple and blindly change your oil at 5k or 10k mile intervals.

That's what you mean, right?
Or are you a sheeple to Big Oil and Big Mechanic who changes their oil way too often and likes to waste money?
I don't know... I live in the desert southwest. sonoran desert. it's been bloody hot all summer. I'm not sure 10k is advisable under these conditions... perhaps in the northeast or michigan with an average summer temp of 80 and highway speeds of 70, not 105 with highway speeds of 80. Therefore, I do change my oil every 5k.. though this last one did slip to 6k. Don't consider myself a blind sheep.

I know precious little about cars, but I'm trying to learn. I have a 2024 Maverick Hybrid with 9200 mi and I wanted to use my experience today as a learning experience if you would be so kind as to weigh in.

Today I went to the dealer for my 10k mile service. Oil change, tire rotation, checks, the usual. When I got there the guy mentioned that part of the 10k service is a Fuel/Air induction service. I was juggling a work meeting at the time and just said "yeah, ok". I didn't say "Um... at 10k miles?" or "I don't see that in the service plan in the app", just "ok". Ok, strike 1.

Then when it came time to square up I was in another meeting (lesson learned, next time I take the morning off) and so when he said it would be $424.01 I had some sticker shock but I paid and left. Strike 2.

When I got home and looked at the invoice I saw:
  • A - Oil change, etc - $107.58
  • B - Fuel/Air Induction Service - $261.95
  • C - Multi point inspection - $0.00
Page 2 showed:
  • Labor amount - $178.90
  • Parts amount - $190.63
  • Misc. charges - $32.20
  • Total charges - $22.28
  • Please pay - $424.01
I was also told that my brake pad thicknesses were 8, 8, 6, and 6. He said that in a few months I'll likely need to have the brake pads replaced to avoid wear on the rotors.

My questions:
  1. Is there any universe where the Fuel/Air induction service was necessary, or was I 100% had?
  2. Are those "Misc Charges" BS?
  3. That level of brake pad wear on a hybrid with 9200 miles!? Aren't hybrids supposed to go upwards of 60k without brake changes? For reference 3k of those are long highway trips and the rest is primarily in-city highway driving (and my braking is usually between 90 and 100% according to brake coach). Am I being had here too?
  4. How outraged should I be about all this?
You should be enraged. I've got 25000 on my hybrid Lariat. Have yet to have anything other than Ford Quicklane service for no more than 139 with everything from rotation to oil change, less with Quick lane coupon offers. That fuel service is the biggest B.S. l've ever heard of. I would be writing Ford about it. The brake wear seems imposdible. I've had Ford's hybrids and plug-in hybrids for 13 years now ( multiple C-max hybrid and Energi) and never needed pads on any of them, up to 120k.
Something's rotten with that dealer. Especially that fuel cleaning thing. Pissed just hearing about it.

Unfortunately a classic dealer upsell for services not needed. You shouldn’t have deposits on your fuel injectors at 9k miles. If they (and I doubt they did) removed the connectors to clean them then the charge is reasonable. I suspect it was a bottle of Lucas fuel system cleaner dumped in your tank. You could call and ask them how the fuel / air service is done if you really want to know but, like others, it’s time to go to another dealer or a local / honest mechanic. Sorry they took advantage. It’s happened to most of us

I once had a Toyota dealer try this kind of crap when i had my Scion xB. My wife (who knows a thing or two about cars) took the Scion to the dealer for an oil change and an E brake adjustment (it was catching high). It had such low miles thats really all it needed. The service advisor (a woman) tried to sell my wife a tranny oil change (it was a manual), brake fluid change, PS fluid change (they insisted the fluid was black and burned), tune up and rear brake adjustment. Total estimate just north of $500. She said "Just change the oil and get it off the lift and give it back".
When she got home i popped the hood and looked at the PS reservoir cap. It had a thin film of dirt and was UNTOUCHED before i opened it. I called the service director and raised hell. I don't like being scammed. He apologized and gave me a free oil change and brake adjustment for the E brake. He probably complimented the advisor for trying but at least i made my point. After my freebies i never went back to them.

You have to physically remove carbon deposits from intake valves on GDI only engines; the fuel never touches them no matter what magic bottle you try.

Vehicle owners with good old port injection can just pour a bottle of anything with PEA in their gas tank every 5,000 miles or so, use top tier fuel where possible, and never have issues.
I am a fan of Top Tier fuels yes indeed
