My main phone will never be connected to any car for the reasons in this article. I am using an old phone and wifi to do stuff like navigation and Spotify, but it was reset and all contacts/photos/etc cleared before I connected it to the car.
It works well, I keep my phone secure and don't drain its battery.

Once your Maverick is synced up with Fordpass, on the infotainment screen if you press on Fordpass you'll find a few data transfer options you can turn off. Note that disabling Location there MAY result in also disabling remote start and lock/unlock via the phone's app. On the other hand, turning off Location stops a potential source of battery drain while the vehicle is sitting with the engine turned off.

Also, on the phone app itself, turning off My Journey will nix some additional data transfer.

Do you use social media? Do you have a smart phone?

I am an advocate for privacy but unless you are going to live truly off the grid, worrying over FordPass should be the least of your concerns.

This is somewhat true, Ford pass isn't that big a deal. I turned it on to get the points, but don't leave it turned on. For one thing it seems to eat battery life (12v), it could shorten the life of the vehicles 12v battery in the long run. Not so great from a functional standpoint, and could raise the cost of ownership over time.

On top of that when all those data sources come together an issue can arise. It's not just what Ford, or Facebook, Twitter, this forum, or other social media outlets collect individually, it's what the picture about us looks like when companies buy that information from these first parties to create total data information about individuals that it gets a little unnerving. So sure, each little source isn't that big a deal in the grand scheme of things, but the more little bits you give away to more different sources, the more these third party data mining companies (at best advertising companies, at worse well who knows who) that buy that data knows about us. The reality is that this level of data collection hasn't existed in the past, and hasn't been around that long, so we have no idea what the long term consequences for individuals may truly be. At best, nothing more than highly targeted advertising, at worst? We don't know.

The battery would keep going dead do I turned it all off including the wifi the stero seems to work better as well.

The dealers really push the app kind of annoying since it doesn't really say what they collect.

Stuff for insurance no thanks

Yeah until you piss off the wrong person or government official and your connected car all of a sudden stops working on some isolated road and a bunch of thugs ambush you. Something as simple as me or anyone else having access to your drive by wire throttle system through the wifi or a pedal commander is enough to make this happen.

Trust me I won't abuse it doesn't cut it. It is already too late at that point. As someone I know who taught self defense classes once told me. The best way to not get mugged in a dark alleyway at 3 am in the morning is not go into a dark alleyway at 3 am in the morning.

You isolate your communication systems from the car's drive system electronics simple as that.
