Dash Cams installs?

Anyone install a dash cam on their Maverick? And for how long have you had it? I go to Dashcam reviews on Google and on YouTube and there are so many negative reviews it’s hard to find a dash cam that actually works and lasts.

Have had it in my Mav for over 2 years now, it loses the date/time when I park the car more then a week. Had the same brand, prior model on my last Prius for 5 years with no issues either.

Dash cams with capacitors instead of batteries are better.
Dash cams with capacitors will last longer especially in hot weather.
Do not sandwich any dash cam between the windshield and a windshield shade.

I have Van True Dash Cam in all of my vehicles. Records both front & back.

I had a cobra sc 400d installed a couple of years ago. Front and back. Never had any problems. Best Buy intalled it for $99.

I use a VanTrue I like but I just plug it into the usb connection due to an issue with it being connected to the BCP at the time the board was being upgraded for a recall.

FitCamX does a decent job of making their dashcams look OEM. The first one we bought tracked a DUI two days after we installed it. Bought a second for the other car. Bought the third one for our new Maverick. Dealer won’t install it so after I get it installed I’ll post pics. Installed the other two front and rear myself. Would not be without one.

I'm super curious about how much view gets obstructed by this particular one. I'm rather tall so there's not much room under the rvm even with it smashed to the top to see under it.

Of the three installs, this one is the most obvious. My RAM and our Cherokee are almost undetectable due to the power mirrors and rain sensors, but this one is slightly more obvious. I’m installing tomorrow and will post more pictures of the actual. unit in my Maverick.

I also went Wolfbox rear view mirror. 2 years now and no real problems. Love keeping the rear picture in the mirror while driving. Between side mirrors and rear cam, I see all traffic behind me.

When being used as a traditional mirror (screen off), is there a dimming feature to reduce headlights from behind? In most reviews they show dimming the display itself, which doesn't appear to be automatic, and I could see possibly wanting the tradition rearview mirror with the unit off.

What about the Pelsee, which from reviews appears to function better as a traditional mirror, without the blue tint mentioned with the Wolfbox units. Also, for either Pelsee or Wolfbox, where did you mount the rear camera? - I currently have mine inside the rear glass, but thought about running it out below the bumper, just over the hitch, hence I ask.

I have a KIA mirror at present, and a somewhat large front/rear dashcam mounted behind it, and am toying with replacing it with a mirror dashcam. Less clutter, with possibly more functionality.

I've been using some Redtiger dashcams in my Subaru's and now the Maverick and am very happy with them. Video quality from front and rear cameras is decent, and install was easy. I watched a sad amount of reviews on Youtube before siding with the Redtiger; it seemed to offer best and most reliable bang for buck. The dashcams themselves I get from their eBay store and are supposedly refurbished units, but seem 100% new.

I used their hardwire kit, but found that with the Maverick's fuseboard it was easier to use Micro-3 fuse taps than the included Micro-2 ones. Hardwire kits keep the install tidy, and enable you to use "parking mode" features - in the Redtiger case it goes into low power mode when parked, recording timelapse video to save space, and stops recording once your vehicle battery reaches a defined voltage level (shuts off before getting your battery into an unhealthy state).

I did run into an issue with one of their voltage monitors/converters in the hardwire kit being DOA, and had to do a little back and forth with their service person before they sent out a replacement, but am happy with them. Lesson learned there was always test everything on the bench and verify its working 100% as intended before going through the install steps.

I've had mine since February of 2023, no issues.
Goes over the smaller rear view mirror and is mostly unnoticeable.
