My neighbor complimented my "cute little truck" the day after I brought it home. Doesn't bother me one bit. My masculinity and ego aren't quite so fragile.

Edit to add: my neighbor is an older woman. She really did mean it as a compliment and joked her husband needed a maverick now
Mav is the official vehicle of old guys. We have no ego left to bruise.

The miata and s2000 slander is egregious!
Isn't that the truth.. we owned an ND Miata for 2 years. That's the most fun you can have this side of $100k. Small, lightweight, manual transmission and RWD. What a fun combination.

Personally, I could give zero shits about what anyone thinks about the Maverick or any of the other cars I own now, have owned in the past, or will own in the future. Seems super insecure.

Here is my Maverick next to an old style Ford Ranger XLT at the Home Depot. I think this is a better comparison than putting the Mav next to an F-150 or a Super Duty.

Much more back window in the Ranger.

That's a good point. I wouldn't mind a little more back window.

My Velocity Blue Maverick Hybrid Lariat gets comments on how pretty it is. My reply is "I know!" I am ordering Carbon Yellow letters for the tail gate. Got to double down. 😁

The small size is what appealed to me. Roomy enough to transport other humans, much lower entry and lift heights, at reduced weight and fuel consumption. Others are welcome to their opinions.

You have to be a little older to remember the first little truck that became a hit in the US back in the 60's and 70's, the Datsun pickup. Datsun pickups were actually first introduced in 1959. The parent company, Nissan, dropped the Datsun name in 1986. As I recall, the little Datson pickups were smaller than the Maverick is now.
I posted this pic in my first post here when I got my Maverick.

My last truck was a 1978 Datsun 620 (sold in 2012). That was my “cute”, blue truck.

My Maverick is just my “new”, blue truck, but wouldn’t call it cute.

I’ve owned the ‘78 Datsun (tiny), a 1987 Toyota Xtra Cab 4x4 (small), and a 2000 Chevy S-10 Extreme (small), and the Maverick is much bigger than any of them.

I also owned a 1960 F100 and I’d say the Maverick is about the same size.

My brother had one of the 70s Datsun pickups. It had been totaled 4 times and bought back from the insurance company. The headlights were wired in a little funny because there wasn't much to connect them to. The front grill was missing and the passenger fender was held on with bungee cords. There was no front nor rear bumper.

I drove it one afternoon to pick up a Christmas tree at his farm. Cars actually pulled off the road to let me by. I prefer to think it was the appearance of the body appearing in their rear view mirror rather than blame my driving skills.

I sure this has been covered elsewhere, but I couldn't find it, so here goes.

"Cute?" Miatas are cute. The similar Honda S2000 is cute. My mid-1960s Sunbeam Alpine was cute. Maybe the Mini Cooper. But the 2022 Ford Maverick? Nah, I don't think so.

So, "Little?" I did some limited, non-rigorous, searching into the early versions if small pickups. (Feel free to check my work.) The examples I chose were 2 wheel drive, short beds and extra cabs when I could find them. The examples I used were: 1. first generation Ford Ranger Supercab, 1983-1988(?), 2. 1995 Toyata Tacoma, 3. 1995 Chevy S-10.

The Maverick is heavier and wider than any of them. The Maverick spec. is several inches taller than any of them, but I think that includes the antenna. Taking the height to the roofline, i'm calling it a wash. The Maverick is longer than the Ranger, near equal to the Toyota, and a few inches shorter than the S-10. So it's really only "little" compared to the newer behemoths we've become accustomed to commute back and forth to work in.

So why am I writing this!? 'Cos' I'm tired and bored with the reviewers comments about the Maverick being a "cute, little truck." I guess it was supposed to be a "cute" thing to say. It wasn't. Still isn't.
Put some beefy tires on it and It will start to look more rugged.

Parked next to a co-worker's Ranger today, yes my XLT Hybrid is not as lifted as the Ranger but I KNOW my gas mileage is better!

It's cute when the wife drives it; she's only 5' tall. Not when I drive it; I'm 6'5".
