Has anyone had a custom 3” exhaust made for their Maverick? Looking into getting one made and curious to see what others have done.

I am curious as to what you would hope to gain with a 3" exhaust???

Although my 3” is aftermarket, you should expect deeper tone, more drone, and less clearance between pipe & heat shielding.

Also, since the Maverick exhaust is routed over the RDU - you end up with a bit less ground clearance.

Could not notice any +/- to performance or mpg’s because I installed during break in period

I inquired about this to MRT when buying my catback from them. I actually just called and spoke with Dave to reiterate what he said so I’m as accurate as possible.
So basically there isn’t enough flow from a four cylinder engine to warrant a 3” exhaust. It’s a “bigger is always better” mindset/mentality but the goal with exhaust is to increase flow and with too large a diameter exhaust rather than exit it would create tumble where the exhaust is bouncing all around rather than exiting and create a situation where instead of reducing back pressure it could actually create some back pressure negating the goal of increasing performance.
I know some owners are already running a 3” setup and may argue/differ that opinion and that’s fine, I won’t go back and forth, but I’ve never had a company sway me from something unless they didn’t want to risk their reputation of performance by doing something that could end up being more detrimental than helpful.
I did let him know I have installed the Livernois tune and I’m pushing more power and boost and that I’ll also be adding my CVF downpipe, that’s when he said it’s not about power, it’s about VOLUME.
He said the same was true for intercoolers, that bigger isn’t always better and the same situation can happen where rather than increasing flow there isn’t enough volume and the flow bounces around rather than straight through, which hits me as I type this and I’ll probably opt to spend the extra few hundred on MISHIMOTO Ford performance intercooler than the other less expensive intercoolers available just to be on the safe side as the side tanks on the MISHIMOTO are noticeably smaller than the other aftermarket brands.
Again I’m sure some will say that’s BS because their truck or a civic or a Focus RS or whatever 4banger runs a 3” “just fine” and again I’m not here to argue, I’ve said my piece and that’s all. Just wanted to add to the DISCUSSION.
I’ll take the better performance option for less money all day!
Also note the sport exhaust Ford performance offers is 2.5” diameter. I would think if there were actual gains to be made they would have went that route.

I plan on going big turbo once real turbo kits are made and not just this 300t package. If the Mustang turbo is a direct bolt on so will be the precision turbo kit or the Garrett turbo kits for the mustang. A 3” exhaust will flow much better than a 2.5”. Rather pay once and have it correct the first time. Made that mistake with my focus st.

I agree with the potential for “tumble” going from 2.5 to 3 inch on the Maverick’s smallish ICE.

Although most aftermarket “cutbacks” leave several feet of 2.5 inch pipe before stepping up to the 3 inch. Less of a “catback” and more of a “pre-muffler” setup. That might reduce any “tumbling”?

If I were to do a custom - I would leave the 2.5 inch swath that parallels the drive shaft and step up to 3 inch at the muffler. Just my 2 cents:)

edit… ahh - big turbo. That changes the situation.

I’m running a 3” now on my big turbo focus st and it’s perfectly fine. I also plan on running a real turbo kit from either precision or Garrett when they release them. Should be the same as the 2.3l Mustang based off the 300t kit fitting tbe Maverick with no mod needed. I personally rather spend once on an exhaust and not need to upgrade cause I changed my turbo.

None of that helps. I’m looking for custom options not store bought options.
I mean, the custom option is to contact someone who agrees to make one for you. Any exhaust shop that fabricates can do so. Not certain what else you are asking. If you are looking for FULL exhaust setup I would start with purchasing a 3” downpipe, purchase and install a tune (highly recommend Livernois Motorsports!😁) before installing the downpipe, install the downpipe, THEN have the shop you choose build the exhaust off of that.
Power mostly comes from the downpipe. Catback frees up flow and adds different sound note and appearance and definitely a noticeable improvement in responsiveness but performance ends there. Real gains are with the 3” downpipe. Stainless Works dyno tested theirs making 30 some WHP and 40 some WTQ so other 2” downpipe should see similar gains.
Some performance gain to be had from catback but maybe 10 HP, most performance from catback is engine responsiveness , works amazing paired with the Turbosmart BOV! Night and day difference in responsiveness.
Far as what people are doing depends on what you want. If noise is the goal you could just straight pipe and call it a day? Noticed lots of people like the Borla muffler sound, or magnaflow, FWIW.

Still, not really. More pressure but still same volume.

Exactly as I said, which is kewl, to each their own. MRT have been making exhaust a long time, started with Mustang platform for years and grew from their. Have to admit I didn’t even know about them until recently but I’ll never fo anywhere else. I’m biased because the business is so close to where I live and they are right here 25 minutes drive from Ford world HQ so admittedly I’m partial to them.

In that case I would just dump at the muffler. Even then I would still ask the pros. I’m mechanical but not an engineer, which these guys are. I’m still going to bring this topic up in my travels to other pros just to hear their thoughts on it so I’m don’t have blinders on the topic.

Agree with measure twice, cut once! Y spend more time and money and get it right the first time.
