I can't speak to everything they said, but my dealer sold me the truck at Invoice price (what they paid Ford) instead of MSRP, and the price really was only about $300 or so less, so that much seems to not be total BS.

Personally I would probably just pick up the original order and treat the drive home as a shakedown cruise. I don't have the patience to deal with the hassle of sourcing a different truck on short notice, so that would factor heavily into my decision.

I've seen plenty of people claim to pick up Mavs for MSRP off the lot. Production is nearly caught up but I think you still need to be lucky enough to grab one for MSRP before someone else swoops in.

My ordered Maverick is just about ready for pickup but seeing how its a 12hr round trip drive I'm searching locally for a deal.

What I'm hearing from dealers is that its still Covid times. A person is LUCKY to get MSRP and I should EXPECT to pay above that for both new and used. They're also telling me from a salesperson's point of view there is no room for price negotiation as they make next to nothing when a Maverick is sold. We're talking around $300, if that, on a sale.

Is this just dealer talk, or do you all find this to be the case?
going to a little tougher to negotiate at this time - tax refunds are due shortly. the good news is there are more being built everyday. I would not expect a large reduction on used prices.

I would suggest sticking to your original order and making the extra round trip to get exactly what you wanted. Sure, it's more convenient to find something closer to avoid a longer trip but then, it's not exactly what you want. It may not be the color you want, the trim you want, the options you want. Just like Sharksforarms mentioned, treat the trip like a shakedown cruise. Plus, it'll give you a prime opportunity to break the vehicle in accordingly and decipher if you enjoy it or not.

P.S., I absolutely love your George avatar. I'm a big Seinfeld fan so I approve 😁 (y)

Angry?, far from it. I'm on my 2nd Maverick already, and livin' the dream. I'm just intolerant of people wasting a dealers time, and using a build slot that someone else could have used to get THEIRS built. My guess is that the dealer in KY did not request a deposit at time of order, otherwise you wouldn't be so eager to walk away from it.

I feel you're being closed-minded about the situation. I have one ordered that I have to fly & ride to get. I don't know how long the order is going to take with the XL shortage, but I'd imagine it won't be quick. By your logic, if the same truck pops up right down the street for a similar price, I'm supposed to ignore it. No thanks.

In my area they are not dealing on lot Mavs.
You might get an EB at MSRP, but definitely paying ADM on a Hybrid.
I gave up and ordered.

Did your dealer tell you what the amount of the holdback they got from Ford or only the invoice price? That would be the real number for what they paid Ford.

True Dealer Cost = Invoice Price – (Dealer Holdback + Manufacturer Incentives & Rebates)

The true dealer cost is equal to the Ford invoice price once dealer holdback and other manufacturer-led incentives have been subtracted. The dealer holdback typically falls between two and three percent of the car’s invoice price, so once you have identified that key information, the rest becomes simple.

Really gonna depend on your area. Mavericks in SoCal are still hot commodity so $5k markups are the norm and you can probably talk em down to $1k-$2 over MSRP.

Your small to medium size dealer in the middle of the country will have wildly different expectations. Just start emailing around and see what they're asking.

Dec 16th ‘23, 2023 Hybrid XL MSRP + doc fee at Foothill Ford Mtn Pilot NC…off the beaten path - likely none left, they had 2 or 3. Took this deal over a 2024 I ordered 7/18/23 even with some options lacking: hitch and 360.

If folks stop buying, the price will drop into normalcy.

I'm surprised how much flack I'm getting here. The dealer in KY has been the only dealer that will only charge me MSRP, and not MSRP + several thousand dollars. So, because I didnt want to pay thousands more, we buy from him. Around my area, it has been difficult to find a dealer that will not overcharge.
I'd say go to a local dealer and negotiate. Offer a few grand off what they're asking and expect them to counter. So start low, even below MSRP. Worst case is they can send you packing. Best case is they actually want to make a sale and do something for you.

At the end of the day, just decide what each element is worth to you -- the cost and time of travel, the compromises on what exactly you're getting, and the money you're willing to spend have a Maverick now vs 6 months or so from now. Just be true to yourself and don't talk yourself into accepting a bad deal. Cars are like everything else -- no matter how much you like the one in front of you, there will be others down the road if this one gets away.

If this were true, Dealers like Granger wouldn't be able to offer $1,000 off MSRP on orders. Think about that.

Correct. That only $300 profit claim is BS. I would imagine most dealers would not disclose their true cost of a Maverick to a potential customer.
