Crossbar Kit with Rooftop Bike Rack - will it fit?

I'm trying to figure out a way to haul my bikes with the tailgate up. At times, I'll be mounting a mountain, road, or TT bike, so I need something more than a tailgate pad. When not hauling bikes, I'll have a soft tonneau cover. I'm thinking about buying the Crossbar Kit from Ford Accessories and adding one or more Thule-type rooftop racks. Has anyone tried this? Can I spread the crossbars enough so that the bike rack will fit? And, can I push the bike rack close enough to the tailgate so the bike fits behind the cab? Any input is appreciated. Extra credit for a photo.

I have been wondering the same thing. I hope someone has experience. If not I might bite the bullet and try it myself if I can find a bike mount to test.

I have the crossbars, I can take some measurements for you if you like when I get home this evening. I'm about to try to have some customizing done on them to work better for what I want in the truck bed.

If you added a set of Elevate TS rails, and then used cross-bars, would this be along the lines of what you were thinking?
