I have not had a cracked windshield for a long time. Today I went outside and noticed 2 chips and a long crack.

I will get this fixed soon.

Questions?

Do most insurance companies cover the crack? I will check with my insurance company to see if there is a deductible Or if the windshield is covered.

I will insist on an OEM windshield. Hybrid XL. Have others gotten an OEM windshield approved?

What should I watch for when the windshield is replaced? Do I need to order any parts for the installer?

Has anyone had any damage to their truck by the installer?

What is the best windshield company. Safelite etc.

Are OEM windshields available?

Thank you in advance.

some have opted to upgrade to the acoustic windshield from the lariat for more sound deadening.

Had cracked windshield at 350 miles. It was vandalism and caught the guy on video..Insurance did cover but there is an approx $800 additional charge to calibrate electronics depending on package. I have a rare CG 1st edition Lariat and had to fight to get insurance to calibrate after install. Insurance had to confirm equipment installed as factory.

Had mine replaced last May, due to damn , uncovered dump truck rocks , that apparently having a sign on the truck that reads " not responsible for damage to your vehicle ' is a legal defense ( there is a lawyer DYING to try that case !) I had Safelite do mine , GEICO insurance I have uses them. Had to use my $500 insurance deductible 🤬. Safelite told me that because the Maverick is too new , no aftermarket options are available. I'm not pleased with the glass that Ford is using . My new windshield has 3 chips in it since being replaced. Tiny ones , but they are there .

that's interesting that safelite doesn't have one out yet. I've used theirs and always been happy with them,, very clear and never cracked again. Demanding OE is silly, aftermarket will match or exceed it. I know people who have replaced with OE 3x and they keep cracking.

Insurance didn't cover mine as a single replacement item but it was only like $350 so whatever, it's nothing to stress over. Price varies by vehicle, not only by size of the glass. I'm not sure how much the OE stuff is, too bad there's nothing out yet. :(

In researching my windshield… Ford only replacement…. Looks like Ford used three different styles or colors of tint for front windshield. My dealer notified me of this immediately. Somehow the correct windshield can be identified by VIN. (Probably build sheet) Ford had to ship mine from Texas. My insurance ordered through Ford dealer. I did receive an exact replacement.

Someone wrote if you use Safelite they will record it as an accident. Is this true?

Your insurance company will have it on record as a claim that will impact your future rates.

I live in AZ where windshields are changed more often than oil on a car. Just had mine changed after 2 big chips in 3 weeks. The second one started cracking to the point I didn't feel safe. We called our ins company (yes we have glass coverage) and they connected us to safelight and we had a new windshield installed and calibrated within 48 hours. Safelight asked us if ours was key start or pushbutton and a couple more questions and we mentioned we wanted OEM. The installer was professional, had the right fancy tools and had the job done within 1.5 hours including calibration at our house.

I expected that. The cost of the windshield and camera calibration I heard is over $800.00.
I have had State Farm in both AZ and OR and always carry (even on old vehicles). Comprehensive with zero deductible for glass. Have had windshields and other windows replaced in both states always at zero cost to me. But on cars old enough to use the rubber gasket instead of glue in the cost of a new gasket if needed is not covered. Sounds like paying extra for an upgrade to Lariat acoustic glass might be a worthwhile investment, though.
