Hi, just had a quick question for you all. I placed an order with my local Ford dealer mid June with no down deposit and confirmed a build date via email a month later. I then wanted to try the idea of placing secondary orders to other nearby dealerships as a backup plan just in case the sales people negotiate unfair financing plans or other unexpected issues came up.

The question that I had was why are other dealerships now requiring a $500 deposit when my original one didn't? And, is a copy of a drivers license required for verification? I am afraid my secondary order will not be verified from Ford causing it not to be picked at all.

Presumably they're requiring down payments to dissuade the exact thing you're trying to do.

As for driver's licenses, some people here have said that its a requirement, but I have an order in my name without it. I didn't have a down payment though. Maybe that has something to do with it.

One of the dealers I talked to said DL and signatures were a "lesson learned" from the Bronco Fiasco.

Too many dealers were setting up no-fee preorders only to have the fake buyers "walk away" at critical times so they would jump the line on stock.

It sounds legit but believe that how you will though.

The dealers I've talked to said they are asking for deposits so "we don't get stuck with a bunch of custom builds we might not be able to sell"

Exactly what your trying to do is what Ford is trying to avoid.

To keep people from making multiple orders... One is supposed to come to terms on price before ordering...Common sense for most of us

I get it people want this truck asap myself including but it's a 2022 and Ford said it would be coming out in the fall (end of this month). So we can expect to get one between now and the MY23 Mavericks. They have a full year to fulfill their promise.

I think you are right, down payment won't affect Ford and their process, it is optional and specific to dealer. The DL copy seems like a requirement that my local dealership overlooked.

My dealer said they are happy to submit custom orders without deposits because many of the builds can be sold easily, I doubt it will sit on the lot for too long.

I was asked for a deposit and I politely declined to pay it since it wasn't a Ford requirement. They still placed the order for me. I did provide my ID and signed the order form.

The Bronco was a good representation of the process they are trying to optimize. I can see why Ford wants to make those decisions.

We are on the same boat with an order without down payment, but no DL copy, I will reach out to my rep and ask if that additional detail will help.

I did my order with Granger Ford. I paid $1000 deposit along with a copy of my DL and car insurance card.

Same here - being a volume dealer and selling outside of their immediate area, I could understand why they changed their policy - a dealer like theirs needs to show that the orders are legitimate to Ford as proof that their allotted volume of orders is not artificially inflated.

It also serves them as a hedge on the backend, for users that do cancel they can prove that they are doing everything they can to ensure their orders are legitimate to avoid scrutiny from Ford as well.
