I'm investigating adding a small winch to the bed of my maverick, probably attaching a divider at the cab end of the bed. I'm needing something like that to get deer into the bed of the truck. I've had a bulging disk for twenty-plus years but have never had any serious issues with it, but I'm not supposed to lift over a 100 pounds. Now that I'm 61, it lets me know it's there even when lifting some lighter stuff.

My Lariat has the A/C connection in the back, but the winch is DC. Is the auxiliary power connection in the bed the best way to do that? Trying to find some posts about the use o f that DC connection in the bed but haven't gotten what I'm looking for how how it's been put to use.

Instead of a winch I saw a trick where you hook a pulley to the bed, tie a rope to the deer and drive forward and it pulls the deer into the box. Iam sure you could Google it.

You might want to check the following posting, has a detailed PDF file, which I've attached to this reply, that shows how I added a winch in the bed for loading/unloading my motorcycle. May give some ideas you could use. Good luck, and happy hunting.

As promised, update with all of the details requested. Craig, you sound like you have hands on experience in a fab shop, and this should be well within your capabilities. The following is an attempt at a ‘CYA’ header covering all the necessary facts, and containing a little humor. Can’t claim...

The 12V power in the bed is only 15 amps. Looking at the manual for the winch you posted, you'll be seeing around 50 amps (Page 2).

I thought the current draw might be the issue/limitation.
