LOL I'm actually not sure.

The trim ring I was talking about removing actually provides the ability to angle the tweeter. So it's designed & intended to be used, but instead of cutting the Maverick factory tweeter mount, I just removed the trim ring. Then I angled it myself as shown in the pic.

There are some folks using really big tweeters or 3 piece components with a 2.5 - 3 mid and tweeter both in the dash tweeter location. That for sure is going to be a lot of cutting and you're never going back to stock or anything like it.

This might be a dumb question, but does the Morel tweeter have a trim ring that can be removed?

I installed Focal RSE 165 components and the tweeter did not fit as it came out of the box. I used a very small flat blade screwdriver to pry apart the trim ring and removed it. This then fit into the factory tweeter ring, but was a little loose. Others have reported using hot glue or silicone, but I went with double-stick tape and put it on about 80% of the tweeter as shown. This was enough to get a snug fit and I think if I ever remove them it'll be far easier this way rather than if I had covered all of it with double-stick tape. (I should be able to pry the bottom of it where there's no tape.)

Compare my pic with the images on Focal's site. I didn't measure but I do still have that trim ring so I could reverse this change (to install the tweeters in another vehicle for example). https://www.focal.com/en/technical-...ns/performance/auditor/component-kits/rse-165

I wanted the Morel as Crutchfield shows only a handful of components with silk tweeters that will fit in the somewhat shallow front doors. I still might do it someday.

I purchased and installed the Focal ISFORD 165 and both the door speaker and the dash tweeter were direct drop in.

yep for $379 vs the $149 I paid for the RSE-165 you can indeed have that convenience.

I paid $200 shipped. Thanks, the convenience was well worth it since I was done in about 2 hours total WITH sound deadening both doors. Probably could have got it done in 1 hour without sound deadening. Sounds substantially better, I was going to power them with a kicker key 200.4 but now I'm not so sure, they sound great without external amplification.

Could you share how you got that convenient price?

On eBay, there was a seller out of Texas that had a bunch of listings for these speaker kits. I made an offer and it was immediately accepted.
It could be grey market or fake, but maybe it was just a car audio shop that had a bunch of inventory they had to liquidate.

Speaking of car audio shops, I visited one last year and they had the full Focal demo board with RSE-165, IS 165, Flax and KX2. I found the aluminum tweeters in the IS and Flax to be a little shrill. However, cymbals definitely were more crisp. The RSE has a plastic dome and I find it smoother, easier to live with at high volume. The KX2 was really impressive but I was not shopping in that price range, LOL.

Could be. Packaging is really high quality, has serial numbers along with the 4 speakers having serial numbers. For the sound upgrade, I am happy with the purchase even if I found out they were fake.

reviving this thread. Just replaced the front door speakers with Morel Ultra Coax. I am considering replacing the tweeters by the windshield. Are they worth replacing? Where can I buy tweeters that will fit and are 8 OHM. Looks like I can't get the powerbass tweeters by themselves and im not sure about their quality. I want to get nice morel tweeters that will fit but looks like they don't really fit... and they are not 8 ohm either... Looking for more options that drop right in with no or minimal modification and are 8 ohm or have an 8 ohm adapter.

Also looking into the rear speakers but thats for another post lol

I would just disconnect the dash tweeters. Your door speakers are 4 ohm coax, so you'll get a weird impedance if you try to run dash tweeters together.

I personally think the imaging from the dash tweeters is really good, and I like components over coaxials in general, but if I bought a Mav today that someone had put coaxials in the front doors, I would just disconnect the dash tweeters as I commented above and see how that sounds.

Thank you I will try this!
