Question…how does one test this feature? Without messing in pants.
Mmm try it and you'll know when is doesn't work! Actually, mine has activated a couple times. I've tied it a couple times, but I'm not gonna give a test!!! LOL

This afternoon I saw the flashing red message with the red alert system for the first time in my 22 non-360 — the confusing thing is that the car in front of us was at least 4 seconds away. No brakes, just the alert.

but it was a very bumpy road on a rainy day, if the the camera at the top of the windshield is part of the sensor package I have to assume it was a false alarm from camera shake and light refracting through water.

I wish I had gotten adaptive cruise. Our Nissan has beat me to the brakes, but all I’ve gotten in the Mav is flashing red.
The same here, I've got the flashing red four-five times eleven month with no brake applied by the system. In all fairness, by the time the flashing came, I was either applying/about to apply the brake, or continued pushing the gas. In the latter, case, I would not want the brake applied by the system anyway...

Your speed must be under 20 mph to engage. The flashing red light is awesome!
Thx, that something I didn't know....

The flashing read light on the other hand more annoying than useful for me. Yes, I am aware that it can be adjusted to be less sensitive.....

Mine must be on the least sensitive because I have only seen it once and it was well deserved.

Had a few alerts in a 2020 Escape and one actual brake application. The one brake application, interestingly enough, was at 70mph with no vehicles in front and luckily no tailgaters. It braked pretty hard for about one second and promptly released leaving me wondering WTF. This happened with the ACC on, in the left lane, in a rightward curve going under an overpass. My only reasoning was the camera keyed off a concrete pillar thinking it was directly in front and freaked, it freaked me. Don't know if it was the ACC or AEB that triggered the brakes but there was a red screen flash and a coffee spill. My eyes were not on the dash at that point.

Just a reminder of what is promised.

The Pre-Collision Assist feature uses camera technology to detect a potential collision with a vehicle or pedestrian directly in front of yours during day or nighttime driving.

It can help reduce the severity of, and in some cases can eliminate, a frontal collision.

If a potential collision is detected, an alert sound is emitted and a warning message displays in the message center.

If your response is not sufficient, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) will precharge and increase brake-assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness when you do brake.

If you don’t take corrective action and a collision is imminent, brakes can apply automatically.

Is this a federal requirement now?

A CR list of $20-30k vehicles said they all have this feature.
Not a federal requirement yet, but the IIHS (so insurers) started pushing for it who can also be pretty influential. See also the seatbelt status window which gets forced to display and for longer on the 23MY after the IIHS felt it was too short.

had this same thing happen on my way home today... I had no idea it was on there, but it flashed and beeped but didn't apply brakes. It didn't seem that close to me but someone cut over in front of me real quick so I guess that was it

I recall seeing something on YouTube using some large empty cardboard boxes.
