Check engine light came on. Sort of light color, changes color slightly when going between Hybrid and Electric engine. Brought it to dealer appt. Drove up and he said 'you'll have to leave it 3 or 4 days, very busy'. I wasn't prepared to not have a car for 4 days, and they don't do loaners, so I drove home.

No errors in the Ford app. Took it to O'Reilly's Auto and they hooked it up to their code reader. Came back "No Diagnostic Trouble Codes are present".

Anyone run into a 'ghost' check engine light? Any idea what it might be? I'll get it through the dealer at some point but need to arrange not having a car for a good while so am curious if this is concerning or whenever I can get to it.

It’s not a check engine light. I think the intent was to show hybrid driver mode operation between electric and the gas engine. I think I picked up an over the air cluster change showing the same thing and about a month later was removed.

IMO that dealer sucks, the first question I ask before purchasing is do you provide loaners for warranty service, if the answer is no I go elsewhere. That said lots of post on this forum deal with no loaner dealers, part of the world we live in nowadays I guess

Since the truck is connected to the Ford app, it would have reported any codes to the cloud. Message me the VIN and I can check to see if it did report anything.

I'm guessing what you are talking about is the light on the left side that looks like an engine? That isn't a check engine light, it is showing what level of energy or something that is currently being used by either the engine or hybrid battery.

Here is the link to the user manual of what I'm talking about:
https://www.fordservicecontent.com/...A&div=f&vFilteringEnabled=False&buildtype=web

Oh. My. God.. Hahahahahaha...

So.... my wife gets in the truck with me the other day (she's not in it too often). We're driving on the highway and she says 'what's with your check engine light being on?'.. I'm like 'what are you talking about?'... she points at that symbol. I was like 'I think it's always been like that'. She says 'that's the universal symbol for a check engine, I don't think it would have been on'.. She 'convinced' me. Insane! I thought I was going crazy (I am, but that's a separate story!)..

Thanks so much!

It's not a "Check Engine" light. When it is white, the ICE is running, when it is light grey, you are in EV mode. They need to change one color or the other in my opinion, it's too hard to tell the difference. I'd like to see it turn blue for EV mode, (or green). You can make it go away, by turning the "Power Meter" off.....but you lose the whole power meter, not just the little engine icon....

I have to say is was pretty stupid on Fords part to use an engine icon for that use.

Nah, that's the "engine in check" light.

The transmission moved its knight to threaten the engine's queen , leaving the engine's king in a discovered check.

Things just ain't lookin' good for the engine!

😜
