Did you drill a little hole to get the wiring up into the black trim cover above the mirror?

No drilling required. Simply pull the black cover off the windshield, I used gloves. Then remove the overhead console that has the lights using care not to break the plastic clips on the windshield side. The wire is easily moved between the two areas via the headliner. Our two Mavericks do not have sunroofs which makes it easier. You can open the sunglass holder to pull the entire console down.

I'm still confused, is your wiring coming out of the mirror being pinched under the very bottom of the black trim, or is it skirting along the side up to the headliner? As far as I remember the trim sits very flush against the plastic glass, so any wires would be pinched unless a hole was made?

I'm just gonna assume your black trim is pinching (aka sitting snug on top of) the wires lol, not sure how else to ask the question.

I decided to go a different route I dint like the idea of splicing the wires so I when with a frameless homelink Toyota mirror that is battery power as easy as bolt on and off

Nice alternative, but spicing into the overhead lights is simple and easy.

Don't forget that Toyota Frameless one does not have Auto dimming feature, which is the reason I want it for, and the cheap KIA mirror is still a killer. I install it in my gf's 97 Nissan Maxima, works awesome !

All you have to do is Google your local car dealer and look for a 2011-2015 Kia Optima and it will show the vin# in the description of the car just use that

Well bad news Maverick truck owners or soon to be the Kia cheap mirror is completely sold out I called one of the Kia parts department and they said the party's over noting but dusk left at Kia parts distribution center shelves

Picture 1 shows black cover is over the headliner leaving ample space for the wire, the black plastic is NOT against the windshield. Picture 2 gives you a better idea when both covers are removed.

Oh that’s interesting. I can’t see any wires coming from the mirror at all. Shouldn’t there be some wires?

Not true at all. Some older models are gone but many more will work.

These mirrors are made by Gentex. The only difference in many are just the wire harness connectors that are made for specific models like Kia, Toyota, Honda, etc. The harness connector end is not important since you are using 3 wire taps.

My point is the cheap $12 Kia mirror is all but a distant memory, Not saying there aren't others that will work just not the great deal as the one from Kia

Not true at all. Some older models are gone but many more will work. I found others that are even cheaper for Kia models. The pic below is one of them.

These mirrors are made by Gentex. The only difference in MOST are just the wire harness connectors that are made for specific models like Kia, Toyota, Honda, etc. The harness connector end is not important since you are using 3 wire taps.

Check out this pic. This is what you are looking for, specifically the wire comes right out of the mirror mounting bracket. The wire harness that you see is a little short to make it up to the overhead console where the light harness is located, but no worries, there is an extension that comes with the mirror.
