I’ve read that you need to ALWAYS have your car hooked up to an external charger while using FORSCAN. This makes sense on Ecoboost models since the engine isn’t running during programming.

However, hybrid mavericks charge the 12V battery from the HVB even when the vehicle is not running (since programming is done with key set to “on”). I worry that hooking up an external 12V battery charger might interfere with the onboard charger on hybrids. What are all of you other hybrid owners doing to keep your 12V battery alive during programming?

Never had to do any of the above with both hybrid and EB during forscan

I used a smart charger on the 12v, didn't cause any issues to my knowledge. While the HV battery should keep the 12v charged, the guidance from Ford to keep a charger on while making programming changes, and the downside should the voltage drop at a critical time, seem to make it the safest route.

Cheers.

I never used a charger on mine. I just did the programming, and didn't have any issues. Now, if my hybrid was having deep sleep issues all the time, then I would probably consider using a charger.

Been using forscan since 2018 and never worried about using a charger. Forscan will warn you if battery voltage is too low before you do anything though.

Firmware flashing is the only time I ever hook up a battery charger to my hybrid. You flash with the engine off and a charger hooked up because it can take 30min+. This is different from changing the config and requires the payed license.
