Changing Blue Interior Trim Color

I like the slate blue interior, it's different from all the plain "ordinary" interiors out there on the market. I've had several compliments on it as well. I also love blue, hence the choice of Atlas Blue

Definitely wouldn't suggest it. First any scratch will be amplified showing blue. Secondly you would possibly depreciate the resale value, a lot, or a little you won't know tell you try to sell it.

My opinion, live with it. Or if it's that upsetting sell it and buy something that you like. Unfortunately there is not much out there to compete with the Maverick. Also no one is going to give it to you so you will have to come up with some money.

Lastly another point of view. If I inherited or was given a vehicle, me personally I would be thankful regardless of the color. Then again that's just me and the post is my opinion, which may differ from others.

I hope you find happiness in whatever you decide.

Glad I read your post, I also reread the OP.

Im content with the blue dash and main pieces.

I only want to replace the orange trim pieces with black.

I came to the same conclusion: the larger pieces such as the dash, door panels, seats I can live with. It’s a tasteful color and really not worth investing all the work and money to change to black.
I do appreciate the pattern in the new front and rear seats and may opt to swap those at some point if I find them for the right price. Otherwise I’m afraid new from the dealer would be too expensive to warrant the swap/upgrade.

Other than replace the orange trim pieces black the only other interior modification aside from upgraded door speakers would be to make a dash cover to stop the glare.
I purchased the a dash pad from Amazon but it wouldn’t lay flat and felt too cheap to stare at every day.

One of the reasons I got XL was more black instead of orange/blue. I added, seat covers and console cover over the blue. Remaining dash and door panels I got used to.

I’ve been wanting to do this since I bought my FX4.

some sort of wrapping (synthetic leather or upholstery style vinyl) may also be an option... will let you know what I find out.

Just a curious question, not trying to upset anyone but other than the OP why would someone buy a vehicle with an interior they didn't like? I mean they're already a horrible investment, then to add on that you aren't completely satisfied

I had a 1994 Nissan 300ZZ TT that had the tan interior that had some rough spots - but most of the interior parts I could find at the time were black. I had a local interior shop dye or paint the parts to match the tan. When they installed a full leather kit for me they wrapped the interior door panels with matching leather and vinyl ( on the arm rests because they get the most wear ).

So a good shop can do whatever you want but it can get expensive for all of the labor involved removing parts and panels.

if you don't mind me asking... what was the ballpark you paid for that? also, was there any issues re-installing after the wrapping the interior door panels? I'm sure there isn't much of a tolerance for that added thickness (even though it may only be a mil) with getting the clips back in and everything lining up

I’m either too purist or too bougie to install seat covers though for as much as I clean my seats I have definitely begun to give them a second thought more than once

The interior I’ve more than gotten used to, I’ve grown to appreciate it very much!

Actually matches with the Carbonized metallic gray paint.

I did remove the rubber or silicone console tray insert a LONG time ago so very little orange is in my interior.

I'm sure there isn't much of a tolerance for that added thickness (even though it may only be a mil) with getting the clips back in and everything lining up

They only charged me $850 in total but I paid $1200 or so for the leather kit. There was a guy who had access to the tools and patterns to make the kits which covered the seats, the area behind the seats, the center console, etc. I was repeat customer so they may have given me a discount.

Everything fit nicely, the panels didn't have any issues fitting back together - these guys routinely did similar work on boats so they know how to make it all look factory. That might also be a good suggestion - find someone who does boat upholstery as well as cars.

I was more than satisfied to have the truck I have in the combination it’s in!

Didn’t even realize until later the added benefit of the 4k tow with the extra capacity radiator and coolers.

Speaking of loved ones passing on, my last living grandparent passed away late May 2023. The truck was a gift from a family member (I had my choice of vehicle with a certain price range. I wanted another fg2 civic si as that was the last car I had that the engine blew and I had plans and parts to go on another one. My choice was limited to a newer vehicle because my family member didn’t want me to be constantly working on an older vehicle and the latest year of the car I wanted was 2011.) So after the estate was settled I was granted a limited choice. They asked “what about a truck like your dad’s?” He has a 2022 XLT in that electric (?) blue. I had driven it twice and loved how it handled and felt strong acceleration so I took all of ten minutes to find the option I would want, then another day to find the exterior color. After that I really didn’t notice much the interior “wasn’t what I really wanted”, I was happy with the newest vehicle I had ever owned being bought in cash in my name free and clear. So aside from being my favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned it has sentimental value I don’t always realize day to day but when I do it’s another nail in the coffin so to speak of why I’ll NEVER sell it, aside from all the work I’m currently and planning on putting into it. And thanks to this forum and the community I’m blessed to be a member of I’ve already far exceeded my expectations for what is possible regarding modifications I had briefly looked into when I initially checked out when deciding what to choose for a vehicle. (I learned enough to know they could be modded to run 12’s and that really sold me) It’s literally the sum of every plan I’ve ever had and not fully executed with previous vehicles I e owned, namely SVT contour and 8th gen civic si. I owned quite a few SVT contours over the years and finally gave up on them due to too much parts obsolescence. That and one day I looked and realized enough about the design I no longer appreciated and made it easy to walk away from a platform I obsessed over for years.
So yeah, THATS why someone would buy a vehicle that want 100% what they really wanted.
again, the blue has grown on me. Black was a favorite color but now in my adult years I finally appreciate blue to the point I’ve become comfortable with it in my wardrobe. Probably helped that I work for a company whose uniforms are blue shirts, and coincidentally it’s always been my mother’s favorite color so somehow it’s come full circle.

I certainly don’t want a black interior in Arizona. That’s why I chose Cactus Gray and the XLT blue cloth interior.

I definitely apply anything and everything I previously learned in life at every next waking day, especially at work and cars/trucks. It’s probably why I’ve been nominated for employee of the month at my work, and also why I’m suddenly taking on repair/maintenance work and upgrades on a 2014 BMW 535i. First customer BMW I’ve ever worked on but somehow I’m completely ready and confident in the job. I swapped so many SVT contours from 2.5 to 3.0. I pulled the trans in my civic and disassembled and reassembled it properly first time; only issue was the main bearings had so much play the shafts and gears wouldn’t align properly so sent it out to a master rebuilder/upgrader in Florida. Then when the engine went I pulled it with the trans attached up the top when my boss had told me it HAD to be pulled from underneath there was no way it could be pulled from the top. I’ve always been modest but I’ve naturally grown into being a bit cocky from the sum of my experiences.
