Hey Ya'll, I used Cerakote Restorative Trim Coating on my 2024 Lariat BOP Maverick about a year ago. It's amazing and still looks like I just applied it yesterday. Been through many car washes too. I liked it so much I decided to use it on my 2021 Hyundai Palisade interior trim. It looked great but the next day the trim coating turned white. I didn't notice that the product description on Amazon said "not for new trim" until after the fact. I called the company and they had no recommendation for a coating that I could reapply to make the trim look like it did before I screwed up. They said to try a Mr Clean Magic Eraser (which are micro abrasive pads) and non acetone nail polish remover. They said it will take some elbow grease to get it off. I tried that but no lock. I'm wondering if anyone has used the product that turned white like mine did and if you used anything that could make the finish look original again. I tried 303 and Turtle wax Inside Job but they did nothing. Any ideas that actually work?

It worked for a 2024
But it didn't work for a 2021
Because "not for new trim"
I'm confused, 2024 is newest than 2021... or not...
What Am I missing here?

I used cerakote on my 2015 Transit(not Connect) and it made the faded trim look like new. And a year later STILL looks like new. I highly recommend this one over any of the other trim coatings.

Yes, it is not for NEW trim. Why would you want to make new trim look like new, anyway?

I have no idea how to go about removing it other than real acetone, and then you'd have to re-apply it to get the trim to look good again...

As I said in my note above, I didn't realize the product is for old faded trim. I'm looking for a possible solution if there is one. Once I applied the product to the trim on my Mav, the trim looked much better than without. It's an awesome product and super durable.

No idea to be honest but I've used Mother's Back to Black and Meguiars Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer with good results but the trim hadn't turned white.....

I should mention that the interior trim color on the Palisade is navy blue so black trim coating may not work.

Geez, that make's it even tougher, Man just grabbing straws here, maybe last resort a dye or paint made for plastic - but color matching would be really hard I imagine. Good Luck fella! Hopefully someone can come through with an idea or product to help ya fix it.

That's a good question. All I can say is the product made the trim on my 2024 Mav look much better than new, rich color and some sheen with no sticky feel. It really is a great product. For those interested, it is available in a liquid form on Amazon, much more economical. I used foam applicator pads, very precise application.

Protection? We all know the black plastic will eventually fade if nothing is done to protect it.

It can be used on new trim BUT that trim (as any trim) needs to be prepped properly prior to application.

I have had great success with Cerakote but I’ve also tuned a few trim pieces white.

You need to clean the surface extremely well. I use hot water, Dawn, and a blue non scratch scrubbing pad to thoroughly clean it.

Then that surface needs to dry completely. 110%

Lastly - it needs to be applied in a low humidity, low dust/particulate area. The first coat needs to dry entirely and cure prior to additional applications.

I had this happen on my wife’s Kia Sorento after I had good results on my Mav. I used Chemical guys VRP cream and it corrected it. You might even contact Chemical guys and see what products they recommend. It’s a great company and they’re helpful.
