Thanks for the tips. So a second coat is not necessary? does it say that on the label? I saw a video on YouTube where a guy was doing multiple coats (timed) on faded plastic. Thanks again.
I contacted Cerakote directly. They do not recommend the trim restorer wipes on new plastic. I used a Stoner ceramic protector with excellent results on my new Maverick. For sun damaged plastic, I’ve used Flood’s Penetrol with outstanding results. This product is used for thinning oil based paints but really works well as a plastic trim restorer.
Interesting. There is no mention of that on the instructions, however from what I have read there have been mixed results using this product on new trim. Also worth mentioning there have been mixed results using this on older faded trim.

My approach was applying this product on "test strips" both inside the bed rail and all the way under the rocker panel trim. Both held up good with no streaking or fading after 3 days. Probably if I were smart I would have waited at least a couple of weeks or longer, but I didn't.

So far so good. Test strips holding up good after a week and rest of the trim (have not done front end yet.) are holding up equally well.

I would suspect there are many variables at play here, quality of the trim, makeup of the polymers in the trim. Plastic is just a catch all term for many type. I don't know. What I do know is I did not want to wait for the plastic to start to go to hell so to speak, instead try to be proactive in protecting it. Everyone's mileage may vary.

Thanks for contacting Cerakote. They should state that on the label.

Anyone else here apply Cerakote to the plastic trim on their Maverick yet? I debated whether or not to do it so soon but decided if applied properly now it would protect the plastic instead of waiting a year or so for it to start to fade. I washed the plastic with Dove dish detergent but did not use any wax remover as there was no wax on the plastic to begin with and Dove does a great job of stripping wax anyway.

I did some research beforehand and discovered that there seems to be a trend of sorts with Cerakote having some issues with Jeeps. Streaking and areas turning white after a day or so. Even some mention on Jeeps of the Cerakote blistering due to the gassing off of the type of plastic they use. I think some of those issues can be attributed to the fact that Wranglers have what appears to me to be rubber from fenders, not plastic and Cerakote is not to be used on rubber. People need to read. :sneaky:

No such issues so far with my Maverick. It came out slightly darker richer looking with a slight sheen and very slick feeling. Water beads up great on it. So far so good.
I did also. The Mav has a lot of black plastic on it. In the past on preveous cars just used ceramic coating I used on the paint with no issues.

Received my 23 Lariat in April. Applied to all black plastic trim. Wiped down with alcohol and applied immediately. It put a gloss on finish, but 6 months later still repels water and looks brand new. I hand wash truck weekly. Am pleased with product

I applied the Cerakote product on all my exterior black plastic trim the first week i had my truck with absolutely NO issues. Been on for 22 months and counting. I had and have no desire to wait until the trim starts to fade. It has held up great. The trim still looks as good as the day i bought the truck.

I have seen zero issues with applying it on new plastic trim. As always, YMMV. I am simply stating my experience in the matter and not advocating for anyone to violate the instructions on the bottle like I did. I also did not wear those silly gloves either. I still have my hands and they are fine.
