If you have ever turned off a vehicle with the wipers going…….do that when they are up then pull.

I read that it’s not a good idea to move the wipers by hand. It could damage the wiper motor. Makes sense to me.
Proof? There's no resistance when you rotate them vertical, and they just retract into the stowed position when you start the truck. If anything is going to burn the wiper motor out, it would be trying to operate it with the wiper blades frozen to the windshield, and/or having snow & ice packed around the wiper arms. That's quite the trough the wiper arms retract into, which packs with snow. I have to clean that out thoroughly by hand before driving. PITA when it's -30C out.

Yeah I think it's a terrible design, apparently lots of other vehicles are doing the same thing lately. Big finger to you guys up north lol.

I just found out about FrostGuard (Deluxe/Vortex type, XL size for Maverick), I wonder if this would be a good option for you guys up there to avoid scraping the windshield and digging out that snowpack in the wiper park area? This is just one name brand there are plenty of companies making these things.

That seems like a good idea, using a cover, but never see anyone using one!? I often have the block heater, battery charger, and a Little Buddy interior warmer going, plugged in a good 1 1/2 hours before starting the truck or scraping the windows.

This design is not something that a lot of manufacturers have been doing lately. It has pretty much been standard design for US nameplates forever. In the 1970's and 1980's, the Japanese nameplates had wiper designs that allowed the wiper to be fully lifted off the glass no matter where the wiper was positioned. This is because the Japanese wiper design was always fully exposed on the windshield and the cowl panel. The domestic manufacturers in the late 1960's began to hide the wipers under the trailing edge of the hood. As such, their standard wiper arm design never needed to or allowed for a freestanding wiper arm. What you see with the Maverick is a combination of both design philosophies. A wiper arm that (mostly) hides under the trailing edge of the hood, yet also able to be fully raised if the wiper is not in the resting position. If you have always had a Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda, etc., etc., you would have never experienced this type of hood interference.

Now that's proof. "May" occur. I've been moving the arms slowly & carefully, have gotten away with that. This is a terrible design IMO - looks over function.
