Read several guides on how to install jumper cable that allows you to override auto start/stop but can't pull out switch panel. Picture shows two spatulas that I've inserted that our supposed to relieve clips to allow panel to come out. You can see some dings where I've tried to wedge out to no avail. What am I doing wrong? 2024 Mav Lariat.
My buddy's four by four shop. They cut a plastic 7/11 sandwich container in the two strips , one by three inches. They slid them down both sides of the switch , left and right. Popped it out with a plastic prybar . Took two minutes.
Same problem here.
I bought the device that plugs into the 4 switch box but have not been able to remove the switches either to make the installation. Uuug.
I watched one guys video where he cut a plastic Coke bottle to slide down into the crack to release the retaining clips. I have not been able to accomplish it yet and I’m not willing to scar up my truck.
I did see where other folks are disassembling the center console, starting at the front and working back to get to it from underneath. I’m also not willing to do that either. As frustrating as it was initially, I just added 'Pushing the Button' to my start procedure before every flight.
Long story short:
It ain’t as easy as it looks like, is it?
I was able to remove mine with two plastic trim tools. You need something thin, and you need something made of plastic so as to not scratch the vehicle trim. I think you have the tools in the right locations, but the tabs keeping the switch panel in place are too low for your tools to reach. I would suggest trying what others have mentioned and use discarded plastic packaging to fashion your own tools.
Don't bother.i almost broke mine.
Remove center console.very easy. Lean to one side and install the device. I'll give more info when I get out of work.
I had the same problem...was afraid I would break the switch. So took the whole console loose and removed the switch. The jumper that attached to the switch was about $15...the thing that plugged in under the dash was about $100. The best $15 I spent on the Maverick.
I stood on the passenger side and watched him. Slide the plastic on each side of it. Work it down. Then a thin plastic prybar.pried it up a 1/4 inch and then pop the other side .no damage.
I used 2 old credit cards, sliding them down on each side. You will feel the tabs release and the panel should pop up a bit. No prying was necessary in my instance.
I removed the driver's side center console kick plate, and reached back to disconnect the switch wiring harness. I was then able to press the side tabs and eject the switch assembly from below. You need skinny forearms to do this, and I did get a few scratches.
Attached are some pictures to see the design of the tabs. If you want to try the thin plastic method from above, make sure your plastic tab is no wider than 1cm or 3/8".
