Can't Download complimentary Maps Update on Sync 3

Has anyone been able to download the one time complimentary map update for a SYNC 3 2024 Maverick Lariat? I've exhausted all Ford tech support. Only article I found online was on Ford Sync Forum from 2023. Same exact problem and following error code. Thanks

I did, but I got the pre-downloaded usb stick. Plugged it in and drove around for about an hour until it was done.

I was afraid of messing it up myself by downloading it to my own stick.

I believe someone posted that copy protection requires that the file has to be downloaded directly to truck then installed. It cannot be downloaded to stick and then inserted into truck as the "key" may not copy or be usable.

James, I went thru Fords website, which linked to another company, and I ordered the usb stick with the updated map on it. It was specific to my VIN. It came in the plastic case below. I don't believe it could be downloaded to another Maverick, though, as I believe it was set up just for mine.

Correct.... If you download online it must be downloaded to truck and installed to specific key (vin#). I haven't messed with mine. I just use my phone.

Thanks for the reply. I like the bigger screen size on the Ford verse cell phone. Also don't want to heat up cell phone battery and shorten its life. I drive to AZ from SD and back each year so Cell phone gets pretty hot.

Yes. I downloaded the update and copied the files over to a properly formatted USB of at least 16gb. (It is not fat32). You also need to copy the install files. You have to have the vehicle running for approximately 1 hour while it installs so take a long drive. You must not turn off the vehicle. Ours took 52 minutes and it reboots the display several times. Call the toll free number and ask for the Sync3 specialist. They can assist you in doing the download and give you links to the install directions. Just know that the newest maps are based on 2023 data. Next year in 2026 the update will be with 20w4 data. They use a 3rd party mapping company to produce formats for every Ford model. They don't have anything to do with Google maps. Google maps is more rapidly updated. For detailed navigation plug your phone in USB and use Google Maps. It will show up on screen in Maverick and the voice commands work for it.

I think @MakingDoForNow probably meant he uses the google or waze maps app on his phone on the truck's screen, via android auto or apple play.

I downloaded to my own usb device and installed it with no issues. Unless you have a strong WiFi connection it usually fails. You can also get the update preloaded on a usb drive for a fee.

Sounds like you are a pretty knowledgeable person in regards to this issue. I have tried everything at least twice that has been suggested. I have never heard of ( Next year in 2026 the update will be with 20w4 data) but will research it. I'm thinking Ford Tech Support may have my problem figured out by 2026. I will probably be trading my Maverick in by then as I will not keep these high tech vehicles past warranty not to mention the Wet Belt that drives the oil pump. Hope I don't open up a can of worms with this last tidbit. Thanks
