While waiting for my "Week of October 17 Build Date" I have looked at all the useful features of the Maverick. I have a question about a front tie down. I have a little Old Town Pack canoe that I can cartop on my Ford Focus without a rack, using foam blocks and straps across the roof. But I also tie it front and back with hooks. What would be the best front attachment point on the Maverick?

If you don't mind something right against the paint, you could strap down to a tow point underneath. You might also consider ditch light brackets and running a rope/strap to either side. I have no idea how these brackets actually attach. You might have to remove the side trim nameplates to get access to some bolt location.

I saw a video on youtube where someone had mounted pod lights on the A pillar somewhere. If there is a spot to mount a light there maybe there is a spot to mount a tie down then tie the front back to that and the back, fowerad to the front of the bed tie downs. Triangulated nicely.

Long ago, someone had posted a canoe/kayak tie-down using two loops of strapping. The strap was attached using the fender bolts on each side of the hood. When needed, the loop could be pulled out between the fender hood.

I can't seem to find the photo now.

I don't know yet what the bolt options are under the Maverick hood, but here is what we use on our 2011 Escape. There when you need them. Hidden when you don't.

maybe consider trading it for a small jonboat? i started out rooftopping canoes and jonboats as well and while doable the unloading and loading got old fast and is next to impossible to do safely alone. being able to just drag the boat into the bed, strap it down quick, and toss on a red flag on the end sticking out was a huge selling point for me.

Yes! I have those on my Buick only they are turned so they poke up between the hood and the fender. Work well.

In use, these stick out too. You have to somehow hold them out while you close the hood. I tried them the other way but that makes them harder to hide, at least on the Escape.

I used these on my old Hyundai Tucson. They worked great.

On my old Chevy I mounted a couple of D rings on to the front bumper through the bumper cover. Worked well. At first I just mounted one in the center but the canoe wiggled too much. For my Mav, whenever it gets here (just got a build date of Nov 7th, cutting it close) I'll probably get a rack in the bed, rack on the roof and those straps under the hood again.
They have some great ideas at Canoecopia in Madison, Wisconsin in April. See you there?

This thing is a solo and weighs 35 pounds. Not a problem. I have a 12 foot Lund and a trailer for bigger ponds.
