I think a better way to say this is, increased wind resistance will lower your hauling weight.

Symantec’s maybe.

But each trim has a maximum towing weight and every other factor reduces that maximum, it never goes up.

Should you tow more is a matter of opinion.
Could you tow more while following the rules of the road? Yes. No one can credibly say otherwise. Show proof if you think you have it. I've only seen 100's of posts about recommendations and opinions about what you "should" do.
I hope you are never involved in an accident while towing 50% more than the OEM rating. If you are, the involved lawyers and insurance companies may be very eager to demonstrate their opinions in court.

Your truck, your call. And, as you said, everyone else should follow their instincts and comfort level.

Of course.
Of course the trailer would have to be:
A) root cause
B) grossly out of spec
C) found to be so unusual no "reasonable" person would have done the same

I think this is not usual.
Therefore, I'm comfortable with it.
Adding the additional equipment to my truck is not an automatic free pass, but it does not show "wanton disregard" either.
Kinda shows I care.
