You live in Buffalo and you didn't get the heated wipers option? Dunno if you can retrofit it or what.

The windshield has a heating wire in it. So retrofit would most likely require windshield swap and perhaps wiring also.

I'm going to try to put door edging on the back of the hood to eliminate scratching the paint.
I thought of this exactly as the other poster you quoted reminded me of that danger

Wife's Subaru's have both had "heated wipers" that didn't work for shit. Realistically, it's not a tech that's do-able from a practical physics standpoint. The amount of energy required to make "heated wipers" effective is really high. Like Snoop Dogg level high. It's a gimmick in actual bad weather (see: Buffalo). Probably works fine in places it just snows a little. Doesn't work here.

turn the wipers on, let them get to about a straight up position and turn the ignition off. You'll have alot more space to change out the wipers without risking rubbing the paint on the edge of the hood. Also, double up a towel and place on the windshield in the area the wiper arm would hit the windshield for protection from cracking the windshield in case it was to pop down on the glass while your working with them.
Mine lift up freely with no resistance, I have yet to try and see if they lock in the up position for the snowy days, this is the bad part of the design of this truck as snow really accumulates is the gap. I wonder if a 3M glue on cowling could shorten that gap and give more of a wind deflection defense from rock chips too?
